Apex Legends is an Xbox, Playstation, and PC game. It has recently swept the gaming industry by storm due to its innovative platform for players. The game, created by gaming underdog Respawn Entertainment (who have also released other innovative games under the Titanfall series), establishes a change to the way battle royale games are played. Apex Legends was dropped to players completely unannounced. The creators published the free game online for anyone to play, and the game quickly took off.
This unannounced game, which seemingly followed Beyonce's business decision to spontaneously release an album overnight, has taken off with players around the globe, even competing with battle royale tycoon, Fortnite. Many players who enjoyed playing Fortnite have started to switch over to playing Apex Legends, simply because the game offers more for those who want a change of pace and a different dynamic. Fortnite, which places players as single individuals competing against ninety-nine others was a game that quickly rose to fame in its heyday. Apex Legends seems to be following the same success, yet taking away from Fortnite at the same time.
What players like more about Apex and less about Fortnite is the fact that they are able to work in teams of three. This creates a new dynamic to the battle royale set-up, and can create a more enjoyable experience for gamers. Apex seems to have been dropped when the gaming community needed it the most, too. Fortnite, although only created in July of 2017, has seemed to become worn out. Between the intense game play and Twitch streamers, as well as the dances and the lawsuits, many people have become tired of the same-old, and wanted something fresh. Apex Legends, just being released two weeks ago, has achieved twenty-five million players within the first week of it's opening. That alone is 30% of Fortnite's monthly amassing of 78.3 million players.
Although the current hype for Apex Legends seems to be on the rise, only time will tell if this new style of gaming will hold out. With the company confirming that cross-platform play will be underway, this could take off for Apex Legends and create even more positive reviews for the game. If cross-platform play is enabled and is well-received by the players, Apex Legends very well could be the end of Fortnite.
