After 3 schools, studying abroad, a few dorm rooms I thought I could handle anything…...
“Oh wow I can actually cook this!” I think as I drop a box of scalloped potatoes into my cart which is already filled to the brim with pasta, t.v. dinners, and Ramon noodles, which I can all also make. It might not be the healthiest but hey at least I’m able to feed myself. Which is super important when you are living by yourself. OK, maybe not ‘by myself’ but with 5 other roommates.
Of course throughout the shopping experience our phones went buzz keeping each other in the loop of our own shopping struggles, and posting group questions about the common areas like should we get this calendar, cleaning supplies and the list goes on!
With several trips up the steps with way too many groceries in hand, I start shoving food items into place, quickly realizing I may have bought way too much stuff for the tiny shelf I have. Yes, I honestly may have went a bit crazy but who knows when I’ll be able to go shopping again! And being without a car means when I go shopping next I may be on the bus which kinda limits what you can purchase and take home.
Yet the next morning when I get out of the shower I go to the foggy mirror and see I have raccoon eyes. Why did I even decide to wear mascara last night? I’m usually not a big makeup person. With all the supplies I had gotten I had managed to forget make-up remover.
It only took me a bit to realize “An Apartment is not a dorm” and that I have a lot to learn! Lucky me I’m only a phone call away to all the answers I need.. “Hello Mom. So how do I pick out fruit?!”
