Open Letter To The Anxious College Christian
Bible's Bud

College can be tough, especially for Christians. You are constantly thrown into situations filled with temptation and often times feel like your opinions are silenced by others. All the stresses of college also can lead to feelings of stress and anxiety. This is hard to deal with too, because as Christians you are told not to be anxious about anything, and let's face it, that is just hard. The past year I have struggled with anxiety like I have never felt before. I have always been a worrier, but I had never struggled with panic attacks and anxiety like I have the past year. This really hindered my faith because I found myself doubting everything in my life. Then I realized that I am not in control of my life. I am in control of my faith though.

There is a story in the Bible that helped me so much. It is found in Matthew 4 verses 35-41. It reads,

35 That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.”36 Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him.37 A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped.38 Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”

39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.

40 He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

41 They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”

The disciples doubted Jesus, even though they had seen His miracles. It is so easy to doubt God, even though we know what He is capable of. We find ourselves like the disciples, crying out to God to save us. We end up doubting that God is actually gonna come through and help us when we need Him.

The thing we need to remember is Who is in our boat. We will face storms in life, and if you aren't facing one now, then brace yourself because one is coming. The disciples realized that even natured obeyed God. The one thing that no other person can explain or control, He can. Do y'all realized how powerful Our God is?? And He is in our boat with us!! We don't have to worry anymore. We have a mighty and loving God who is with us throughout the storms of life and even in the sunshine. All we have to do is remember Who is in our boat and simply be still.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
