5 Ways to Deal With Anxiety at College

In This Article:

Dear Friends,

College is in session. I hope everyone enjoyed their first few days of classes. Today I want to talk about how to deal with anxiety while you are away at college. Maybe you deal with this a lot or maybe it is just a freak thing that happens every once in awhile. Either way, I hope you enjoy this article!

1. NAPS

Naps are so important in college. I never napped at home as much as I do now at college. It helps me feel reenergized for my work and activities. Even if it is just for fifteen minutes between classes, every thing counts. You may not like naps now, but once your classes start getting intense, you are going to enjoy napping more than you think.

2. Grab a Meal with a Friend

Need a break from all that stress and work? Text a friend and ask if they want to get a meal at the dining hall. Take your mind away from whatever it is that stresses you out. It is always important to distract yourself from things here and there. Make a balance between your social life and academic life. If one outweighs the other, you NEED to fix that.

3. Do NOT Procrastinate

If you saved your work until the last minute in high school, that has to change. It is imperative that you get your work done ASAP. You want to enjoy your college experience, not stress about it 24/7. Get your work done sooner rather than later. You will regret it if you don't.

4. Go on a Walk Around Campus

Going on a walk can really clear your mind. If it is a nice sunny day outside, you should go on a short walk around the block. Get some sunlight, and just enjoy nature. It will put you at ease and give you some alone time to gather your thoughts. Blow off some steam with mother nature!

5. FaceTime Friends from Home

Anxiety being caused by feeling homesick? Call your parents or FaceTime an old high school friend! Nothing better than a familiar face to cheer you up. They definitely know you better than most people right? They will know how to cheer you up and put your anxiety to rest for a little while.

These are just little tips that I use when I am feeling anxious at college (which is a lot of the time). Everyone deals with anxiety differently, and that is okay! There is no right or wrong way to deal with anxiety. There are different methods for dealing with anxiety and some work better for others and vise versa. Don't be afraid to talk about anxiety because a LOT of people deal with it. Always here if you need a friend to talk to. Take care everyone, and I will see you next time with a new article.

Your Friend,

Al

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Blair Waldorf
Stop Hollywood

For those of you who have watched "Gossip Girl" before (and maybe more than just once), you know how important of a character Blair Waldorf is. Without Blair, the show doesn’t have any substance, scheme, or drama. Although the beginning of the show started off with Blair’s best friend Serena returning from boarding school, there just simply is no plot without Blair. With that being said, Blair’s presence in the show in much more complex than that. Her independent and go-getter ways have set an example for "Gossip Girl" fans since the show started and has not ended even years after the show ended. Blair never needed another person to define who she was and she certainly didn’t need a man to do that for her. When she envisioned a goal, she sought after it, and took it. This is why Blair’s demeanor encompasses strong women like her.
