As I’m typing this from 30,000 feet up in the sky, I can’t help but think about the exhilarating thrill of this plane landing. The thrill of coming home and visiting my friends is a feeling that is currently bundled up inside of me just waiting to explode. After counting down the months, weeks, days, hours, and seconds- totally kidding, counting down the seconds is a BIT extreme- I’m currently sitting in a blue, leather, middle seat of a Southwest airplane, traveling back home to the wonderful state of Maryland. War Eagle to that!
Traveling via airplane allows one to basically be trapped, and leaves you with little or zero personal space. Think about it- if you want some more space... where are you gonna go? Jump out of the emergency exit in hopes to sky dive?! No. There’s not much room to roam around the aisles of an airplane, none the less to even stretch in your seat. Hundreds of people are tightly packed together, sitting straight forward waiting to land in their final destination. Even if you want to stretch you arms, you’re invading the personal space of those sitting on either side of you. If you wanna lay your seat back a bit, you soon find yourself in the lap of the person sitting behind you.
It seems as if the anticipation and excitement of coming home and visiting my friends at other colleges are kept bottled up and waiting to explode, or rather pop like a bottle of champagne- just as I’m waiting to burst out of this seat and explode into the arms of my best friends.
But the anticipation leading up to visiting one another at school constantly builds up and once the time comes. Poof. The 3 day long weekend visiting your friends that you’ve spent the last two months counting down the days for are over, just like that. It’s almost as if we hype up the event in our heads...which we do! Time just goes by so fast that when the time finally approaches, we’re having too much fun with each-others company to realize that its come to an end.
However, the time you spent visiting one another just so happens to be one of the best 3 day weekends that you most likely will have all school year, as visiting your best friends at other colleges is basically the best vacation ever. And now, you’re only left with the memories on your camera roll (all Snapchat stories saved, please!) and now you find yourself counting down the days until you can all meet up again.
Visiting friends who attend different schools is somewhat a cycle. It goes from “Omg!! I can’t wait to see you!!” or “Only a few more hours until you’re here!” to “I miss you already!! Come back soon.” You get all decked out in THEIR school colors, rocking team apparel for a school that isn’t even yours. But thats okay- that’s what makes it so much fun. It’s almost as if you go harder when visiting your friends at other schools...I mean you have to. You stay out later, hitting every bar downtown, and get little to no sleep at night only because don’t want the festivities to end! We want to get as much done as possible with one another before the time we have together is up.
So with that being said,
Till next time, besties. Xoxo
