While it may be the unpopular opinion, summer is coming and I can't say I haven't been wishing for the colder weather to come back. Although I prefer the cold winters of New England, I also have a bone to pick with 'summer music.'

The trend for music that is considered suitable for summer is that it is all happy melodies and vapid lyrics about the sun, a hot girl, and at the peak of sophistication, a summer romance. Lyrics are incredibly important to me when listening to music, and therefore I tend not to gravitate to the typical summer music heard pouring out of car windows and being carried on the wind at the beach.

So, I decided to make an Anti-Summer Playlist, a tongue-in-cheek title to showcase some of my favorites for summer; songs that sound happy, but aren't quite so when given a closer listen lyrically. So, whether you enjoy the heat and blazing sun or not, try listening to these 25 songs to get more out of your music this summer than a vague description of a perpetually happy babe on the beach:

1. "Anti-Summersong" by The Decemberists.

2. "Girlfriend in a Coma" by The Smiths.

3. "I Just Wasn't Made For These Times" by The Beach Boys.

4. "Nancy From Now On" by Father John Misty (VIDEO: NSFW).

5. "Paul Is Alive" by EL VY.

6. "Feeling Ok" by Best Coast.

7. "Avant Gardener" by Courtney Barnett.

8. "Hey Jealousy" by Gin Blossoms.

9. "Are You What You Want to Be?" by Foster the People.

10. "Bitin' the Bullet" by Grouplove.

11. "She's Thunderstorms" by Arctic Monkeys.

12. "Myth" by Beach House.

13. "Disorder" by Joy Division.

14. "Just Like Heaven" by The Cure.

15. "Bullets" by Editors.

16. "The Love Club" by Lorde.

17. "Shine" by Wild Belle.

18. "Summertime Sadness" by Lana Del Rey.

19. "Holland, 1945" by Neutral Milk Hotel.

20. "How Can You Luv Me" by Unknown Mortal Orchestra.

21. "Glory Days" by Bruce Springsteen.

22. "You Can Call Me Al" by Paul Simon.

23. "99 Luftballons" by Nena.

24. "Reality in Motion" by Tame Impala.

25. "Hey Ya!" by OutKast.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
