Open your eyes, if we want gender equality we should stick together.

Every once in a while, I look on my Odyssey feed and see articles like these:

“I’m not a feminist and...

“I’m 18 and I’m not a feminist because...

“Feminism, why it sucks.”

Um, one question.

Who cares?

No really, who cares If you don’t support women’s rights or rights for yourself? That just makes you uneducated and immature, it doesn’t need an explanation.

“Feminists hate men.”

No, if you actually researched and read up on feminism besides the crappy media you surround yourself with you’d understand what it actually is.

Hating men is misandry, and some “feminists” do hate men. That’s not feminism.

M-I-S-A-N-D-R-Y

"Dislike of, contempt for, or ingrained prejudice against men (i.e., the male sex)."

The “feminists” that do hate men are misandrists.

Feminism is the equality for all, which include: Women, men, and LGBTQ+. It doesn’t exclude anyone given their race, ethnicity, or gender. This means feminism is intersectional.

Some people try to convince others to become an equalist, which is the equivalent of All Lives Matter to Black Lives Matter. It’s just assisting men who feel victimized and want us all to be “equal”.

I’ve been a feminist since Sophmore year of high school and ever since I’ve become one I’ve noticed how the patriarchy has affected me and those around me.

My male teachers were very misogynistic when it came to women participating in male-dominated activities. There have been some instances where my intelligence was questioned because I was female. Everything that I've said to male superiors was shot down because I was a female.

Being a feminist not only makes you see through everyone else’s eyes but makes you see how inequality affects you as well.

If you have a child, a wife, and mother, they too are affected by the patriarchy. There are tons of double standards that do not affect men, mostly white, straight men.

Feminists shouldn’t slut shame and shouldn’t shut down any woman for doing her own thing unless she’s hurting someone.

For example, Kim Kardashian, she’s a sex symbol and a mother of three. Yet she has no problem showing her body, and you shouldn’t either. She’s capitalized off of the sexualization of women produced by the patriarchy and she’s being successful with it.

I don’t support Kim Kardashian, but I don’t judge her for showing her body, that’s her business. Not mine.

Non-feminists confuse me, they find women who fight for their rights ungrateful and believes that they should let things be. "Let the men handle it."

We're not in the 50's, women are no longer possessions or trophies. It's time for us to be respected.

Men need to start respecting that some us do not want to have kids and that our bodies are our possessions.

Not theirs.

That some of us women do not want to get married, that we dress for ourselves, and not for the attention of a man.

Contrary to popular belief, feminism also affects men. Men need feminism because the patriarchy makes them believe they have to be tough and unbreakable.

Feminism is open to all genders, whether you're bigender or transgender- it does not exclude anyone. Us feminists are all fighting for our right to be ourselves, govern ourselves, and not have society govern us.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
