Alright, lets talk about Liberalism.
Many of us consider ourselves to be liberal, and I think that's wonderful, being a liberal myself. But, if so many of us are liberal and "open to new ideas" then why do we see so many liberals shutting down people that might have a different connotation of what liberal means and the people that are quietly conservative.
Liberal, according to text book definition, is "being open to new behaviors or opinions and willing to discard traditional values." People may take liberal to mean whatever they like, but the common theme is that you are open-minded, do we agree?
Liberals want the rest of the world to be as open-minded and accepting as they are, but it seems to be a common behavior to be so close-minded to the people that are conservative. How can we, in good faith, be liberal if we are being close-minded to people that have different opinions than us. We are not the "say all" in decided what is right and wrong.
I know many people that are conservative, simply because of the way they are raised. They think nothing is wrong with the way things have been in the past and they want to conserve it. It is not my place to not befriend them, argue with them, or tear them down just because of the way they are raised.
Yes, I understand conservatives can be close-minded when it comes to political stuff such as feminism, gay marriage, and racism only to name a few, but guess what? This is America and they have every right to believe what they want to believe.
Sure, I know I don't agree with the beliefs of conservatives, but this doesn't mean that I have a right to bring anger, close-mindedness and arrogance to a conversation when I am speaking politically.
We, as liberals, want the world to become more peaceful, happy and accepting of the new wave of change, but how can we expect this to be the future if we bring the same close-mindedness to conservatives as they do with liberals.
Being against a conservative is not the same as being a liberal.
