Listen, if the shoe fits wear it. I'm sick of people acting like it's a bad thing to be normal. If you think about it logically, most people, by definition, have to be normal.
And that includes you. And me. We like music; we like movie; we like art; we like our friends and use social media and hate politics, or at least what politics is at the moment. We're all pretty normal, and that includes our quirks and peculiarities, and all that is okay.
There's a weird idea popular lately that it's a virtue to be politically incorrect and a dissident for its own sake. It's really not; it's just obnoxious. Rudeness is not truth, unpopularity is not truth, even "going against the flow" is not truth.
TRUTH is truth.
Truth is simply alignment with and love for God's commands in the Bible. Nothing else matters and nothing else can be true. Where that is popular (most people agree theft and murder are wrong), or where that is unpopular (the world is quickly throwing the Biblical Truth on homosexuality out the door, and the last Supreme Court "ruling" on abortion regulations in Texas is a disgusting affront to God's Law too).
Don't be concerned with being popular and inoffensive, and definitely don't be concerned with being unpopular and offensive. That last one just makes no sense; at least the former is understandable. The duty of all of us is to be concerned with speaking The Truth in Love.
And on a much sillier, less fundamental note, it's okay to like pop music, to be mentally stable, to be an outgoing people-person, to enjoy the Transformer's movies. It's okay to say, "Yeah, I listen to MCR and wear black, so I suppose I'm emo. Yeah, I wear polos and like football and working out; I'm a jock."
It's just pretentious to try to claim otherwise. Of course that's not ALL you are, but if a clearly defined societal pocket is a large piece of your identity (and I'm sorry, but no matter who you are, a large piece of your identity IS shaped by someone else external), then the shoe fits, so wear it.
Can we just stop worrying so hard about being unique and original and cool and different, and just do our thing? That's way more sincere and interesting anyway. Like, just get rid of the veneer, pull back the layers of irony and self-imposed weirdness and get on with the more interesting things?
If the shoe fits, wear it, so you can finally get the journey started without tearing up your feet.
