"There's no secret to aging well, there's a basic way of doing it... and it's called living." -Cameron Diaz
You can have surgeries, buy a ton of cosmetic supplies, moisturize more, whiten your teeth, dye your hair, buy a new wardrobe, work out your face, take every vitamin known to man, pray to a higher power to magically make you 30 years younger... All of these are different strategies to make you look younger. But, this only works if you are a woman, because, like fine wine, men only get better with age. Older men are just complete Silver Foxes, but women, after you get past 40, you better buy everything you can find with the label "Anti-Aging".
Our society gives the term "aging" a negative connotation (but what's new). And, not only is it negative, but the negativity is very strategically placed on women. Society places this ideal on women that they need to look young in order to be beautiful, but as soon as men get gray hair, they are deemed strikingly gorgeous. Obviously, this isn't the case for everyone but is that not the case for a very large portion of our society? But, I think it's about time we start changing this stereotype...
Aging is defined as "the process of growing old". But, when did the process of growing old become a bad thing? We are people and people grow old. It cannot be stopped or delayed... And the fact that people think they can control it, is absurd.
I think it's important to recognize that aging shouldn't be a bad thing or something we aim to change. It's a part of life and shows our journeys and our experiences. So, the next time you reach for the hair dye or anti-aging serum, stop and remember that you are you.
