What would you do if your phone started to ring and the caller id read Jesus? Would you answer? What if new messages on phone appeared on your screen with the contact as Jesus, would you answer? Each and every day we search for ways to hear God speak. We say, "if this happens it's totally a sign from God", or "I just really need the Lord to speak to me", or the best one yet, "If God would just tell me something, I would do whatever he said!"
News Flash: at this very moment, God is speaking to your heart waiting for you to hear his sweet words. He wants to talk with you. He wants you to hear him. You're waiting for God to drop a message out of the sky, but God prefers to speak through means that are less outgoing. He created the world, he shouldn't have to do something that grand for you to hear him. Below are tips on how to hear the whispers of our heavenly father.
God whispers, while the world around us is loud.
That's right. The creator of this world, the creator of every person, the creator of you and I whispers to us. Everywhere we go, God is with us. This is stated in Exodus 33:14, "My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest." We think that God isn't with us, because we can't hear him. We can't hear him, because our minds are focused on the whirlwinds surrounding us. If we aren't focused for listening to God speak, the presence of this earthly world will drown him out. We will subconsciously tune him out, while we worry about how many Instagram likes we got, or what's going on with our best friend's ex-boyfriend.
God knows what's good for you, better than you do yourself.
Now I know after reading that header you're probably thinking, "Oh my goodness, I would never question what God was doing with my life." You're absolutely lying to yourself. I still have no idea why, but I will question why God put something into my life, or why he let something happen, and that hurts his heart. Think about it. God puts everything in our lives to better us, never to hinder us. So imagine if you baked three dozen of homemade cookies to give to your friend, when they throw up their nose and are offended that you didn't know they were dieting. Instead of thinking we know best, we should put all of our faith into our Lord. "Trust in the Lord will all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths." - Proverbs 3:5-6
God will never promise you something and not keep his word.
When I was a child, I worshipped the pinky-promise. If my father pinky-promised me that we would go to the zoo, I would never doubt that he would take me to the zoo. The pinky-promise symbolized when someone meant something with the entirety of their heart. That they would do whatever it took to keep their word to me. God's words and his love are infinitely stronger than pinky-promises. If one faith in the Lord, their desires will be come true. We all know the saying, if we have faith the size of a mustard seed, we could move mountains. I'm ashamed that I don't have more faith in my heavenly father and his promises, because it's evident throughout the Bible that the followers Christ who believe his word are rewarded for their commitment and faith. "Blessed is she who believed, for there will be a completion to those things which were told her by the Lord." - Luke 1:45
Answer his phone calls, because the Lord has such beautiful plans in store for you. Plans for you to grow, to prosper, and to love him even more. We just have to want to hear his whispers, not the noise of the world.
