Dear Mom,

Thank you are two words that you don't hear as often as you should, but simply saying thank you isn't enough to show you how much I appreciate you and everything that you do for me. You have been there for since day one, and I honestly wouldn't want another person by my side. Even though you're my mom first, you are also my best friend. You are someone that I can always come to no matter what dumb thing I've done and I know that you're not going to judge me.

You are the most powerful woman that I know. Even through times of adversity, you have always managed to keep your strength. You are incredibly compassionate and giving. Thank you for keeping me sane and helping me through AP classes and for loving me even when I'm being difficult. Thank you for supporting me in every single speech and debate tournament. Thank you for all of the inside jokes and gossip. Thank you so much for everything that you have done for me. I wouldn't be the person who I am today without you.

Although this article may be extremely cliché, I feel that my mom needs to hear this; I think all moms need to hear this really. I may not show it all the time, and I definitely don't say this as often as I should, but thank you, Mom. I love you. Your love and guidance has taught me so much through the 16 years I have been on this Earth. I hope that I can have your fierce attitude towards life. You're beautiful, strong and loving, and it would be an honor to be half the amazing woman you are when I grow up.

Love,

Nyah

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.
