Ah yes, retail.
Even though the "customer is always right" and "the customer comes first," there are multiple things that retail workers would LOVE if customers would stop. Here are five of them:
1. Complaining about things we can't change, like the prices or the fact that you can't use both your coupons.
GiphySince I work in a relatively expensive store, complaints of this nature are a constant headache.
If you aren't trying to spend a lot of money shopping, I completely understand. However, instead of taking it out on me, just kindly leave and head to another store.
Unfortunately, I don't have any control over the prices. Believe me, I'd love to!
2. Leaving a complete mess.
GiphyObviously, I'm paid to straighten the store.
That being said, please fix the clothes you try on right-side-out and hang them back on the hangers.
Please don't leave your empty Starbucks cup.
If you happen to spill or your pet has an accident in the store, please just ask for some paper towels to clean it up.
Please.
3. Coming in right before close.
GiphyI can assure you that every retail worker audibly groans when a giant group comes in at 7:45 and the store is supposed to close at 8.
Yes, we will let you keep shopping, even after close. No, we will not be happy about it.
Don't be those people.
4. Asking if an article of clothing looks like it would fit you.
Giphy"What size do you think I would be in this sweater?" is such an awkward question to answer, no matter what.
Please just try it on. At that point, you can ask if it looks right or if a size up or down would fit better.
Think of when you ask your boyfriend, "Does this make me look fat?" He understands our dread!
5. Asking us weird questions like what size to wear?
Giphy"You're about my daughter's height and weight. What size pants do you wear?" Yep, hate that question too.
Customers have asked me so many crazy questions.
One lady was struggling to find the store and so asked if I would drop her my location via cellphone...after I'd already given her the address!
Also, customers call and ask if I could text them a picture of something we sell. In case you didn't know, this is weird. Don't do this.
There you have it!
Customers will always be valued, but I can promise you that avoiding these five things is appreciated and will make our lives so much better.
Thank you in advance,
