7 Very Annoying Things We All Hate About Classes

Assigning a paper due any other time than midnight is a sin.

Spring semester just started, and I am already crying my eyes out. Reading over the syllabi to find that I have group projects and that half of my grades are based on participation almost made me have a heart attack.

In hopes of sharing some of my already blooming anxiety about school, here are seven things that we all probably hate about classes.

1. Participation point

Some people are naturally more shy than others, but that doesn't mean they don't know what is going on in the class. I don't think that it is fair for people to get a bad grade due to the aching anxiety they get when having to speak in class. In some classes, I will talk a lot and then there are some other classes where I do not utter a word. Everyone is different, and we shouldn't be graded harshly because of that.

2. No computer rules

I understand that professors want us to pay attention, but taking notes on the computer is much easier for some people. Taking handwritten notes can be a nightmare for me and makes it much harder for me to pay attention since it takes me twice as long to write than it does to type.

3. Mandatory attendance

I usually don't miss class, but shouldn't it be my choice to miss if I want to without my grade taking a hit? If I missed too much then it should be reflected by my lack of quality work, not in a 10% attendance grade.

4. Group projects

Do I even need to explain this one? They really should be called "one person does all of the work and everyone else takes credit" projects.

5. Papers due any other time than midnight

I once had a professor say that she always procrastinated turning in her work and hated when deadlines were before midnight, but she made her assignments due at 5:00. So hypocritical. We all know that professors are not going to start grading papers the day that they are due, so why not just make them due at midnight like a generous human being should?

6. Discussion sections

Ever since I had discussion sections my first semester, I have tried to avoid them like the plague. They have now come back to haunt me. Everyone just sits there in an awkward silence while one very knowledgeable kid talks the whole time. I would rather just post my thoughts on a forum every week and be done.

7. Pop quizzes

These things will be the death of me. Whenever I actually do an in-depth reading there is never a pop quiz, but the one time that I didn't have time to read is when there is a pop quiz. The world seems to want to work against me.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.
