Anne Hathaway may be the hero we didn’t know we needed. From her iconic role in The Princess Diaries to her strong voice on political positions, Anne Hathaway is a great role model for kids all around the world. In her recent interview with The Guardian, Hathaway admitted that her happy expression during her 2013 Oscar acceptance speech was all a lie. Although I never saw Les Misérables, I knew that Anne Hathaway had to lose about 25 pounds and of course become her character. She said that, “I kind of lost my mind doing that movie and it hadn’t come back yet.”
As a child I was obsessed with The Princess Diaries, I loved Anne Hathaway and definitely wished that I could have been the Princess of Genovia. As I got older, I saw her in other movies such as Alice in Wonderland and The Dark Knight Rises, and of course I loved her in those roles but I think a lot of people forget that celebrities are real people and have real issues.
Hathaway often posts pictures on Instagram that have real life meaning behind them. She uses her status as a celebrity to get people to think about the issues that our facing our nation. I follow her and I noticed that she has been posting pictures that let people know their last day to register to vote, pictures in support of Hillary Clinton, and pictures that show her support for women’s rights and other political issues.
She understands and is grateful for the things she has in life, in the same interview with The Guardian, she said, “I felt wrong that I was standing there in a gown that cost more than some people are going to see in their lifetime.” Her dress for the 2013 Oscars had been designed by Prada and she acknowledged that there are people out there that cannot even imagine the price of that dress.
Hathaway is all about women being able to view their bodies as beautiful. A few months ago, she posted a picture of jeans being cut with a caption that said to love your body because bodies change and it is okay if you don’t lose all of your pregnancy weight right away.
I would have never thought that when I saw The Princess Diaries that Anne Hathaway would become such an inspirational celebrity in my life and in the world. Never have I seen her post anything negative, only positive. She accepts that people have differences and she knows that she is extremely lucky to be in the position she is and she uses her status as a celebrity to bring awareness to all kinds of issues that face our world today. While most celebrities are busy posting selfies or pictures of shoes designed specifically for them, Anne Hathaway uses her Instagram to post not only selfies and pictures of her dog, but pictures that bring awareness to issues that not all people would think about while scrolling through Instagram.
