Shows and anime are often missed out on due to the length and short time that we all have. While we do have some of our favorite TV shows that we like to binge on, most of the time we more often than not, skip watching any anime movies. But as an anime advocate, I guess that is a title I enjoy to don more than I like to admit, I find that the best anime are the movies because it gives so much plot and story within a two hour long time frame. Rather than rate the best anime movies in my opinion, I would like to offer a list of three amazing anime films that I have had the pleasure of seeing, sometimes more than once, in my past.
Without further ado, the first anime movie is "Summer Wars". "Summer Wars" is about a young math genius who is a frequent user of the an online app called Oz. A place where literally everything is performed such as shopping, medical status, and even city wide infrastructure and stability. One day he is tasked to answer a spontaneous math-related text that receives on his phone. The morning following, he is wanted for hacking the world of Oz and must try to prove his innocence while fixing what he indirectly caused. The manga is also a great read if you want a little but more after viewing the film.
The second movie is called "The Girl who Leapt through Time". This movie was one of the first anime features that brought me back in the culture and entertainment of anime. This film's plot revolves around a young high-school girl who is experiencing a phase of bad luck. She is assigned to bring some supplies to the science room/lab and trips on a small metal ball and suddenly travels back into time. Stunned by what has just happened to her, she discovers how she can travel through time by will and uses it to benefit herself. But just like the time paradox, her actions in the second time around affects the timeline causing unintended consequences. She must eventually learn how her actions affect others, but it may be too late? But it may not be the last time for a second chance?
The third and last anime film to be listed is "Wolf Children". Fun fact, all three movies that I presented here were all directed by the same person: Mamoru Hosoda. "Wolf Children" is about a young college women, Hana, who meets a fellow student worker who is also a werewolf. He debunks all the myths of werewolves and Hana falls for him. They soon enter a relationship with each other and everything seems great. But, SPOILER, the Wolf man who fathered two children with Hana passes away in an accident. Hana is left alone to raise two wolf children, but discovers the joy and sadness of parenthood. All three movies are available to watch in both English, Japanese, and even some other languages and I implore that this film be watched especially due to subtle nuances and symbolism in it.
