During the holidays most people put some sort of pet on their list whether it be a dog or a cat or even a hamster. There are so many videos online about people receiving an animal for Christmas and they are so happy and crying tears of joy but no one sees what happens after the camera stops rolling.
A lot of the time the animals are given away or neglected because people realize that maybe they weren't cut out for a pet or that it was to much work.
but there is no excuse for not taking care of a pet that relies so heavily on your care. They need you, and if you can't take care of them don't ask for one or get one. There will be a lot of people trying to re-home their pets within the next month because they realized that they can't devote the time to the animal that is needed.
But 90% of those animals that were promised to be taken care of will end up in a kill shelter.
if you got an animal for your child or significant other and somehow didn't know that they were allergic do not put the animal through such suffering just buy some allergy medication. Or you now realize that your kid is not gonna step up to take care of it then you as a parent should because you made the conscious decision to get them this pet.
Moving, having a baby or it not being trained properly are not excuses to get rid of the animal, there are reasonable solutions to all of these problems.
You can go out and get a trainer, there is no city that doesn't allow pets, and you knew you were having a baby or trying to have a baby before you got the pet. You would never abandon your children so why abandon your pet, they are the same. They need you and count on you, they aren't disposable.
Now not every excuse is bull because some situations the animal is better of finding a new home or being placed somewhere else.
But if you well know what you are getting into then there is no excuse. They are just as much your children as a human one. Its simple, if you can't take care of it, don't get.
