"Anger, Anguish, Uncertainty"

A time out of a punishment and a failure of justice

Everyone has been talking about the Brock Turner case that's a sentence of six months, which now he only has to serve three, was basically a time out. For raping a innocent 23 year old girl all Brock Turner is getting is three months. If that is not a a failure of our judicial system than I don't know what is.

Brock Turner, a 20 year old former Stanford student swim athlete, raped an unconscious girl at a frat party. He is getting a slap on the wrist for the brutal things he did to this girl. A girl that is now scared for the rest of her life with a memory she will never be able to erase.

The girl that was viciously sexually assaulted wrote a twelve page paper to the judge. A twelve page paper that highlights the horrific details of her rape. Not only details, but this girl confronts her rapist. I applaud you for your courage and your strength. However, I am, along with so many others, sorry for the pain you went through, failure of Judge Perskey to seek a fair punishment, for Turner's father who wrote about your rape as "20 minutes of action", and Mike Armstrong, Turner's attorney, for victimizing you on the stand.

Your twelve page paper is not only a description of a life long scarring memory, it now spreads awareness, it represents strength and empowerment. Thank you for being strong and showing the world you are a survivor. You are not broken and that takes a lot of strength. Your story now opened up doors for so many women who could not speak out about their rape because they either believe they would be blamed for it or not taken seriously.

So this is a letter to you Mr. Armstrong, I hope you're happy that your rapist client will be out in three months time. I do not know you nor do I want to know you. I don't know how you sleep at night or are able to look yourself in the mirror. Not only did you let yourself represent a rapist, but when the victim was on the stand you victimized her and made her feel like she asked to be left behind a dumpster, naked, and unconscious with pine needles stuck in her head.

Then to you Judge Perskey, the man who said "A prison sentence would have a severe impact on him," and "I think he will not be a danger to others," when asked why you did not impose a harder sentence. You let Brock Turner out on the best deal of his life. Imagine if it was your daughter, granddaughter, sister, or even friend that went through what this girl did, would you accept that sentence? Probably not. Also, and since he doesn't have a past criminal record his sentence of only three months of a brutally rape seems fair right? No sir it does not. You have failed to serve and protect the rights of the innocent and I hope you are okay with that.

Finally, to you Mr. Turner, the father of Brock Turner, how dare you call your son's rape of an innocent girl a "20 minutes of action." I understand you later came out stating you shouldn't have used the word "action", but I would have advised you to say nothing at all. You raised a monster sir and now you just showed the world where he has sought it from.

And to you Brock, calling you an animal would be insulting the animals.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.
