Let the politics commence.

With the 2020 elections approaching I started researching potential candidates to be more informed than I was in the previous election. As I started to research all the candidates I noticed Andrew Yang was one name that kept popping up. He is a upcoming Democratic presidential candidate whose main focus is on Universal Basic Income which is basically a form of social security that guarantees a certain amount of money to be given to every citizen without any requirements. Yang's stance is to give $1,000 a month to every U.S. citizen who is over 18.

Now, when I first heard of this idea I didn't understand how it could even work and where this money would be coming from. Yang's reasoning for this being his primary policy is due to the increase in technology that will continue to only grow and wipe out many American jobs. His idea is to reimburse all citizens makes sense due to the fact that in the next 12 years 1 in 3 Americans will be losing their jobs to new technologies.

I think what is most interesting about Andrew Yang is he is one of the first presidential candidates who I have heard talk about modern technology that is taking over our lives little by little each day. While technology is amazing and helps humanity in various ways, there is still the underlying fear of technology overtaking our jobs, which ultimately affects our lives. This is an issue that should be in included in all potential candidates because it is coming faster than we know.

I'm not telling you who to vote for but simply informing about candidates who aren't necessarily in the spotlight but do deserve to be.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
