On last week's episode of "After Paradise" (the talkshow that airs after "Bachelor in Paradise") the newest bachelor was announced, and let's just say people aren't happy. The latest lucky guy to win a shot at love is Nick Viall, and he is no stranger to "The Bachelor" franchise. Though this will be his first time being the sole object of 20 plus women's affection, Viall previously appeared on Andi Dorfman's and Kaitlyn Bristowe's seasons of "The Bachelorette" and is currently a contestant on "Bachelor in Paradise." Yes, you read that right, Nick's season of "The Bachelor" will be his fourth time on a "Bachelor" show.
So why are people pissed? Like most bachelors, Nick was a previous contestant on "The Bachelorette" and had his heart broken on national television (which he has graciously reminded us of about 300 times on this season of "Bachelor in Paradise"). So he's the perfect candidate, right? Wrong! Viall is currently a contestant on "Bachelor in Paradise" and was shown in a teaser for this week's finale picking out a ring for his girlfriend on the show Jen Saviano (who we first saw on Ben Higgins' season of "The Bachelor"). This one really made me mad because I loved Jen and Nick and was very excited to see what would happen with them on the finale. But sadly, the surprise is gone. Unless Nick plans on being the first ever bachelor that's already engaged?!? No? Ok, worth a shot.
Another huge upset for "Bachelor" fans was Viall being picked over presumed front-runners Chase McNary and Luke Pell (who both made it to the final three in Joelle "JoJo" Fletcher's season of "The Bachelorette" only to lose to ex-football pro Jordan Rogers). Relatable, yet somewhat boring, McNary and corny, lover boy Pell would have made perfect bachelors, so why weren't they picked? When asked about the matter by People, Chris Harrison said, "He has just become that perennial, second place guy who wants to find love and is as sincere, if not more sincere, than anybody about finding it. It's about giving him his chance to find love. Who deserves it more than him?"
(Chase McNary)
(Luke Pell)
Well said Chris, but this hasn't stopped the social media universe from exploding with complaints. Vent away people but I don't think we'll be able to pull a Caila Quinn with this one. (Incase you don't keep up with all the hot, "Bachelor" gossip, Quinn was rumored to be the next bachelorette after losing to Lauren Bushnell on Ben's season but was so disliked by the public she was replaced by everyone's favorite, JoJo.) I'm afraid for better or for worse, Nick Viall is our newest bachelor.
