With the Rise of Iron expansion out for "Destiny," there have been a lot of changes to the Fallen, the Cosmodrome, and the Guardians as you battle SIVA, a nanobot like plague once used to help the Iron Lords of old. The Iron Lords believed that SIVA could help them reach new grounds like the Traveler once did. Alas, the SIVA was not an ally, as it slowly corrupted all but one of the Iron Lords. Lord Saladin has lived a life of regret, and now that the virus has shown it’s face again, it is up to the Guardians to rise up to the challenge and become the new wave of Iron Lords. The Fallen, time and time again, have been losing to us, from the Battle of Twilight Gap to the rise of House Wolves. We’ve destroyed their machine gods, foiled their plans, slain their Kell, and the House Devils have had enough. They want us dead, and to do so, the Devils have teamed up with SIVA to show that they’re not weak. Even with the power of the SIVA, the Fallen will always remain just that; fallen. We’ve showed them that their Perfected Sepiks God is nothing but a giant hunk of metal, pushed the virus back, and avenged the Old Lords that fell. RoI revisits some of the beginning areas and touches upon some of the nostalgic moments for early Year One Destiny.
One particular quest that stands out to me the most would be the Khvostov exotic quest. When you start Destiny for the first time, the first weapon you pick up is an old Khvostov. With this quest, you build your own up-to-date version of the auto rifle. The Fallen Devils are also some of the first enemies you encounter as well. As you wrap up the quest and return to the area where your Ghost first discovers you, and clear out a few fallen in their Ketch. Once that’s done, the game has you walk outside to admire the view with your Ghost. He explains that when the Ghost find their Guardians, that they don’t know what they look like on the outside; only on the inside do they know what they look like. He talks about the adventures you two have gone on, and then he says, “And thanks — you know — for being my Guardian.” To me, that feels as though Bungie is thanking the players that have played the game up to this part, knowing that it’s been a bumpy ride. And to me, that line is really worth hearing.
