An Open Letter To Those Who Feel Like Giving Up
Derreck Johnson

Do you ever have those moments where you just feel like giving up? Where the world is pressing down upon your metaphorically scarred back and metaphorically broken shoulders? When you can no longer see a way out and you just want it all to end? You probably did, but maybe it didn’t feel as intense as what I just mentioned. In one way or another, we have all gone through these moments of feeling powerless and unable to solve our issues. For some, these moments last for a lifetime, for others, maybe only moments.

Why am I bringing this up? Why not? We are in a time where the end is nigh, yet there is no light. But why? What we, as a people, did will not go unnoticed. You are probably saying, “J, that is very condescending of you.” But, this was inevitable. No matter what happens, we were meant to go down this road. All we could have done was postpone it for a period of time. In time, all good things as well as bad things must come to an abrupt, yet satisfying end. Such is life, we are born, we live for a while, then we die. Soon, all physical life will cease to exist. We will consume each other in a huge, insatiable, mass of eternal fire and damnation that will not be stopped, because it was predestined. There is nothing that we can do.

And yet, we still have a small beacon of light. Maybe the only light left in a barren wasteland of complete utter darkness. A light that so many try to hold onto, a fire. It goes by many names. If you are on the same wavelength as me, then you know where I am going. This light that we cling to is something that a powerful and loving Creator put down deep inside of us. We are programed to cherish this with all we have, or else we will turn not into dust, but darkness itself. Hope. That’s what many call it, but I call it your spirit, the will to live and push forward, no matter the cost. Those moments when nothing else matters. When you pick yourself up with a power that goes beyond everything that you know. A power, a strength, a will, that exceeds all expectations. A fire that will not go out, unless, you – yourself, puts it out. Some call it adrenaline. When you get to those moments, you fight, scratch, and claw your way to victory. You will have nothing to lose, and everything to gain.

And you may ask, “But why J, why this now? What does this have to do with anything?” It has everything to do with everything my friend. Just look around you and see where you are. This day and age is going downhill very fast. We could very well end up in the hands of our enemies and we will be too late to stop it. If I am scaring you, I apologize, but someone needs to say it. But, remember that little light that I told you about? Well, there is a great and mighty God who can make it shine even brighter. Remember that insatiable fire that I told you about? This mighty and powerful God can save you from that. Remember when I mentioned that this world is going downhill? This mighty and powerful God can save you from every problem and issue that you will face. It won’t be easy, but if you trust in Him, you will be taken care of.

Do you want to know the best part? This mighty and powerful God, loves you! He already knows who you are and wants you to talk to Him! So, what are you waiting for? Just because the physical world is going to end, the spiritual world is just beginning and that world lasts forever. Please, if you are reading this, hear me. Read what I have written and take to heart. If you want to go a step forward, read the Bible. That’s where all your answers will be found. Don’t throw away your life because you don’t know. You are important and God wants you to know that. God owns the cattle on a thousand hills and everything thereof. Everything that you could possibly want or need is not out of His reach. In fact, He made it all. So, please. Let your light shine. Keep your fire burning and never give up. Push forward and never stop. You are here for a reason and never forget that.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
