Being a sorority woman, I get to experience so many things that I other wise would not have the chance to. One of those many things is finding out about so many volunteer opportunities. In high school, I really found my passion for volunteering when I was in my National Honor Society. As a Delta Gamma member of the Gamma Alpha chapter, I get to work with so many different organizations and causes. I would like to speak on behalf of this past week's philanthropic activities. These past events are better known as:
Anchor Splash is possibly every Delta Gamma woman's favorite week of the year. For the University of Tennessee, that week was last week. The week is filled with so many fun activities and memories. I'm not going to say "oh Delta Gamma is this, Delta Gamma is that..", but I do want to say how amazing this week really is for all of us.
This week is all about our national philanthropy, Service for Sight, and our local philanthropy, Club VIBES (visually impaired/ blind enhanced services). Club VIBES is something that is special to every Delta Gamma member. We have grown so close to the members of VIBES. Not only do we raise money for them so they can keep helping their members, but we actually take the time to get to meet with them and get to know them. This year at the Anchor Man pageant (one of the nights of Anchor Splash) a member of VIBES got to speak to the crowd and tell her story. I felt that her story helped everyone see what we were really there for. We weren't there to make fun of other Greek chapters. We weren't there to hang out with our friends. We were there because we are raising money for a cause.
Each year I am a part of Anchor Splash, it seems to get closer to my heart. Maybe it is because it has been getting better and better each year (shout out to my sisters and other Greek chapters for participating). Sure, getting to spend a week working close with your sisters is great, but getting to raise awareness and money for Service for Sight and Club VIBES is even better. I am proud to be a sorority woman and so blessed to be able to work with such great organizations.
Happy Anchor Splash everyone!
