8 Things You Should Thank Your Older Sister For
The Verge

If you have an older sister, you probably have a lot to thank her for. She's your go-to person and you know she will always be there for you, since she is stuck with you for life. She is your 24/7 best friend, Netflix buddy, late-night life talk partner, and yes, sometimes your mother. You love her more than most and probably don't thank her enough for all she has done and continues to do for you. Hey sis, thank you for:

1. Supporting my life decisions

Life can get messy and be confusing at times. Thank you for supporting all the decisions I have made, good or bad. You have not only supported my numerous life decisions, you have helped me learn from yours as well. I wouldn't be where I am today without your support and guidance, and for teaching me that it is okay to not always have your life on track.

2. Adventuring with me

We've been from coast to coast together, and I know there are many more adventures to come. You are always up for new experiences and you help me get out of my comfort zone to make them with you. Thanks for being my travel buddy and for handling all the "adult-like" things that come along with going on these trips. I wouldn't trade our memories and experiences we have made together for the world.

3. Teaching me your ways

Since you were the first child, Mom and Dad were more strict on you. Of course, you learned your way around them soon enough, and were kind enough to share your wisdom with me. Thank you for teaching me your ways. Whether it be how to quietly sneak in late at night and tip-toe past their room or how to convince them into letting me stay up late or go out on a school night, I learned from the best. (P.s. Mom and Dad if you are reading this, we never really did any of these things)

4. Being my role model

You have always been a role model to me. Growing up, all I ever wanted to do was be like my big sis, which drove you absolutely crazy at the time. I would steal your clothes to try and look like you, always hang around you and your friends, and copy your every move. I still want to be like you. I aspire to be as passionate, fun-loving, intelligent, independent, and hard-working as the woman you have become. Thank you for giving me such an amazing figure to always look up to.

5. Telling me the hard stuff

Best friends are great to have. However, sometimes they don't always tell you how it is. Your sister tells you when you are being annoying, or when you look ugly, or are having a bad hair day. Thank you for not being afraid to tell me the hard stuff, for telling me when I need to change my attitude, or work harder, or not be so lazy. Thank you for never being shy when it comes to voicing your opinions about me.

6. Motivating me to be a better person

You are one of the most motivated people I have ever met in my life. Thank you for forcing that positivity and happiness into my life. I know I don't always appreciate it, especially when you force me to workout with you, but I know it will all be worth it in the end. Your hard-work habits have inspired me to better myself as a person, and to never give up on my goals and dreams.

7. Quoting movies with me

This is a big one. All of our favorite movies and shows are the same, and we quote them non-stop. Other people have no idea what we are talking about half the time, but we don't seem to mind. You never get annoyed by my excessive binge-watching of Friends and Parks and Rec because you sit there and watch episode after episode right there with me. Those are my favorite nights, especially when Ben n Jerry's ice cream is involved.

8. Always being there

No matter what, you are always there. You have been there for me growing up, through the good and bad times, and you will continue to be there for me as I get older. I can't thank you enough for this. It is the best feeling to know that you always have somebody looking out for you. Thank you for being my person for life.

If your big sister is anything like mine, you owe her the world. You wouldn't be half the person you are today if it wasn't for her. You are grateful you get to experience life with her by your side; without her life would truly be not as exciting. Thank you for being the Tina Fey to my Amy Poehler. Thank you sis, for everything.

Love Always, Your Little Sister

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
