"We The People of The United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union...." These are words of men who created the American dream. Where has it gone people ask? Well, it has not left us but we left it and forget who we are. How the roots of this amazing country we take for granted was formed. This country was never perfect but founded on principles of "Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness." Every day we take everything for granted. Every day there is a new "trigger word," a group is always offended because of something. Kids wanted "safe-spaces" which is where censorship is formed. Every day we are losing the basis of what our country was started for -- to escape a totalitarian state. A government who infringed on "certain unalienable rights," which is our basic rights as humans. Many of the 13 colonies came to North America to escape religious persecution from Europe. Maryland was formed for English Catholics. Pennsylvanian was formed for the Quakers and others. Georgia was a place for criminals. But all 13 colonies under the rule of the British realized that their rights were not the same, it was not respected by a man overseas.

Today our country is falling more and more to big government, to a place of "equality" or socialism. Many will argue that to be equal is good, and needed. The rich have the most power, but do you really want to be like everyone else? I would love to be a millionaire but that is just life. This country throughout history has progressed the most in under 200 years for equality than any other country. Thomas Jefferson wrote, "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal..." We were founded on the principle that we are all equal. Yes, this country had slaves but throughout history the rights for minorities of color, for women to all have the basic rights as citizens through amendments, laws that are our rights and can't be taken away. How can you argue you that we are unequal? We are and it is up to us to make the most of our lives. We are able to have public funded schools. We have the ability to make a better life for us. It is up to us -- THE PEOPLE of this nation to make the life for what you want.

My great grandparents came to this country to make a better life, giving my grandfather the freedoms this country offered. They did jobs no one wanted, they worked hard to create a life. They did not win the lottery, they didn't do anything but take welfare. They saved, worked hard from generation to generation. The work made me, and my cousins the first of our family from Italy to attend college. This country was not founded for the "white man" but for people to better themselves where they are equal.

I ask that you reflect on what you have. If you have a job, even if it is bagging eggs, to flipping burgers, is that the end? I know we all wanted more. If you want that new car, how will you get it? I ask that you do the best to better yourself, because in 1776 we did not fight for nothing. We fought for everyone, we still fight for our rights to be protected. Yes, it is sad some groups did not have certain rights until now but we will prevail. We are ALL Americans.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
