An Open Letter To My Older Sister

Sisters are different flowers from the same garden.

An Open Letter To My Older Sister
Tori Jean Hatfield

Sisters are angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly.

I can vividly remember the times we shared together as kids. From chasing each other around the house ready to kill each other to building snowmen together, there was never a dull moment. As the younger sister, I have had the opportunity to watch you. I have watched you play, grow, love, and most importantly mature into an amazing woman.

As siblings, we are bound to have arguments. However, we always come out bigger and better in these situations. As silly as this sounds, thank you for arguing with me. Thank you for stating your opinion on certain situations while also listening to mine. I have learned to respect your opinion and take both perspectives into account. Thank you for always loving me despite our silly arguments.

I have had the opportunity to watch you take situations as they come, and make the absolute best of them. I have watched you suffer, and I have also watched you absolutely rise out of those situations and come out on top. I have watched you turn into an absolutely wonderful, God-fearing, mother. I have watched you raise your kids with love and patience, and to me that makes you nothing short of amazing.

From you, I have learned I must stay on my toes. You always have something new and exciting planned. You have always been very outgoing, and I am completely the opposite. Thank you for showing me how to speak up for myself, and thank you for doing that for me when I was unable to. Thank you for sticking up for me. You take up for me no matter the situation, even sometimes when it's probably not needed, but I love you for that. Thank you for teaching me to be honest. You have taught me to state your opinion, but do it with a good heart.

I am forever grateful God blessed me with a sister like you.

I hope we will have the oppurtunity to make thousands of more memories. I love you Kelsie Cole and I am so very proud of the amazing lady you have become!

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
