An Open Letter to Young Americans

The president has no say in how our country is run. It is the people who have that power.

Regardless of your personal feelings about Donald Trump, there is no doubt that he is going to be inaugurated on January 20th. He will go down in history as the 45th President of the United States of America and there is nothing anybody can do to stop it.

Personally, I am not a fan of Donald Trump. Anybody who follows me on any social media would know how I feel. However, I have put my feelings about him aside and have come to terms with the fact that he is going to run our country. So, to all of the Americans who are scared, worried, or hopeless towards what the future holds for our country, the following is written especially for you:

We the people determine whether this country is headed for greatness or, knock on wood, disaster.

With all feelings about the President-Elect aside, we must have hope that he will choose to do what is right for the American people as a whole. However, the government does not have the power to make this country great. That power is held by you, and by every other person who is a part of this great nation.

As cliché as it may sound, we just have to be genuinely nice to one another. In order for America to thrive, we must become blind to race, gender, sexuality, etc. and learn to see one another simply as humans. It is crucial that we learn to respect one another regardless of differing opinions and choices that we make. It is then, and only then, that we will all truly be able to come together as one and continue to make this country a place that people feel safe and are able to thrive in.

At Michelle Obama's final speech as the First Lady, she stressed the importance of hope, especially in young Americans.

"I want you to remember something that has carried us through every moment in this White House, and every moment of our lives," Mrs. Obama said. "And that is the power of hope. The belief that something better is always possible if you're willing to work for it and fight for it."

She was telling us to work and fight for what we believe is right. She was saying that we need to have hope in order to achieve our wildest dreams. Basically, Michelle Obama instilled in all of us, that with hope, anything is possible.

She also said something that really stood out. She said the following:

"To all the young people in this room, know that this country belongs to you."

We are the future of this great nation. We are able to change it, for better or for worse, and no one man, especially Donald Trump, can ever take that power from us.

The greatest document in America starts out as such:

"We the people."

I believe that we the people are able to change the world, so long as we respect one another and have hope.

So, with that, I end this open letter to all of you who might be afraid of what our future holds post Trump's inauguration, by telling you this:

Be kind. Be respectful. Always have hope in our country, the world, and the people that inhabit it, and everything is going to be just fine.

10 Truths About Being In A Sorority

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
