To whom it may concern:
We aren’t all cut out for doing what we love. Some of us are better at doing things we don’t like. Sometimes people assume that if someone is good at something, they like it, and that’s not always true. Someone who is gifted in math, may actually love English or someone who is obsessed with science may actually be a star on stage.
Some are fortunate enough to have talents for what they love. This should not be discouraging for those who have to work at what they love. No one should give up because someone told them to, or because someone think it’s a safer option to pursue something else. You should take risks to be great at what you love, and put in all the effort you can because you know in your heart that nothing else makes you happier than your passion. Whether that passion is in science, english, or art, you have to know that hard work pays off in the end.
It may be unfortunate that you’re at a disadvantage. There are others just like you with more talent who are pursuing the same goals. You need to understand that your situation is never hopeless, you have to know that perseverance and determination can help you overcome your weaknesses. The talent of others can be overcome with your own hard work. Those who are more talented than you may be arrogant, they may think they don’t have to put in effort to be great.
Being good at what you love starts with you. You have to be confident that what you love is worth doing, and that you have the potential to do it well. Without confidence you won’t have conviction in what you’re doing. You need to set goals for yourself, goals that will motivate you to work harder. You can’t surround yourself with negative people either. You need to create a positive environment for yourself. Surround yourself with people who will support your passions and encourage you to achieve your goals. When you achieve a goal, set a new, more difficult goal to attain.
If you’re good at something you truly don’t like, that’s okay too. Any strength is still a strength you can use to your advantage. Sometimes your strengths in other areas can help you improve at what you really love. For example you may be great at math, but you love art and you have to make a drawing with specific proportions. Maybe you’re great at creative thinking and you use that ability to come up with an innovative science experiment. Whatever your strengths are, don’t neglect them. We aren’t all meant to be great at what we love, but we should all try like hell anyway.
