An Open Letter To Those I Met In 2016

This was a busy year to say the least, but I wanted to take time to show my appreciation to all the new people that made it special.

An Open Letter To Those I Met In 2016

The year 2016 was a roller coaster of emotions for all of us. Whether how big or small the obstacles we had to overcome, we need to step back and be thankful we didn't go through it alone. It's important to learn for the mistakes we may have made and keep moving forward into this new year. I want to take a moment to recognize the people I met this year that made it special.

Whether we know each other on superficial level or we've made a deep connection - you were such a special part of my 2016.

For the people I worked with... thank you for making work feel like more than just a job. You gave me something to look forward to every shift. Sometimes all I needed was to see a smile on your faces to know that everything was going to be okay. Thank you for listening to me complain about how stressed I was or even giving me advice about whenever you saw I needed it. This year you have become more than just my coworkers, but friends I can rely on even after we clock out.

I was fortunate enough to make numerous new friendships this year. Words cannot explain the pure joy you all have brought to me. Knowing you now only makes me wish we would have met sooner. You have supported my decisions, both good and bad and have been there for all my ups and downs this year. We've shared memories that I will remember for a lifetime. You have showed me how to step outside of my comfort zone and taught me so much about the world outside my own. I don't plan on losing any of you anytime soon, no matter where life takes us in 2017. I will always be a phone call, text, or letter away. I love you and thank you for making this year unforgettable.

For the more intimate relationships I formed with others, you've taught me a number of things about myself I never knew before. You've supported me tremendously with my self confidence. Something I struggled a lot with this year, you reminded me all the reason there were to love myself. You were that voice to tell me I am beautiful. You showed me how important communication is with others, and no matter how hard we try... we can't read each others minds. You reminded me how harmful of a habit overthinking can be, because of this I taught myself how to become more patient and understanding in all my relationships. I now have a better understanding of what I'm looking for in a relationship. I thank you from the bottom of my heart and wish you nothing but happiness in 2017.

To the people I met and didn't get along with. This year, it seemed that society made it hard for some of us to see eye-to-eye. Despite opposing views or opinions I had with others, I was able to learn from you all the most. I am more tolerant than ever before. I discovered that no matter how different we may be, kindness can overcome anything. For those who treated me with respect and dignity, I thank you.

So, to the people I have met in 2016... I hope you get a sense of how much you mean to me. You made this year stand out from the rest.

Cheers to a new year, may it be filled with friends both old and new.

With all my love... your bff,

Mia Fortura

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Syllabus Week As Told By Kourtney Kardashian

Feeling Lost During Syllabus Week? You're Not Alone!

Kourtney Kardashian

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
