An Open Letter To 'The Vampire Diaries'
TVD

Every Thursday night since the year since 2009 between the months of September and May, I was watching "The Vampire Diaries." A show revolving around the lives of those who live in Mystic Falls, Virginia. For those of you who do not watch the show, here is a quick rundown of TVD.

"Four months after the tragic car accident that killed their parents, 17-year-old Elena Gilbert and her 15-year-older brother, Jeremy, are still adjusting to their new reality. Finding some comfort with her familiar social circle -- best friend Bonnie Bennett, frenemy Caroline Forbes, and former boyfriend Matt Donovan, Elena finds Jeremy hanging out with the stoners and using drugs to hide his pain. As the school year begins at Mystic Falls High School, a handsome and mysterious new student, Stefan Salvatore, intrigues Elena with his bizarre behavior. Stefan Salvatore and his brother, Damon Salvatore eventually are entangled in a war for Elena's heart and her friend soul's because of a obsession the brothers had with a women they both loved more than a century ago," The Vampire Diaries Wikia said.

Six seasons, many deaths, reincarnations, lovers, multiple Teen and People's Choice Awards later, this supernatural drama based on the series of novels by L.J. Smith is one of the CW Network's hit shows. Not only is it a hit television series the whole world loves, it is a hit television series I love.

It is rumored that this may be the last season of "The Vampire Diaries." And although nothing is confirmed, such news makes me overwhelmed with an intense amount of sadness. "The Vampire Diaries" has affected my life in many ways, thus aiding in the shaping of the person I am today. That is why I am writing this open letter to the cast, writers, and crew.

Thank you for teaching me true love exists. Stefan Salvatore and Elena Gilbert met when she was going through an extremely tough time in her life. Her parents just died, she was adjusting to new parental guidance by her Aunt Jenna and trying to help her younger brother Jeremy get on the right path. Stefan offered her comfort, compassion, and acceptance.

But, I'd also like to thank TVD for teaching me that true love always prevails, even if it means switching from brother to brother. What is meant to be will be.

And as Elena Gilbert was faking her smile through grievance after grievance, I learned that maybe my problems weren't so bad in the grand scheme of things. If Elena Gilbert, who eventually loses her entire family to a long series of unfortunate events, can smile through the pain and be a strong person -- so can I.

"The Vampire Diaries" reminded me that maybe writing in a journal is the best remedy.

I'd like to thank Caroline Forbes for reminding me chicks rule. "Vampirism" sure does suit the girl everyone wants to be. Cheerleader, student counselor leader, and party planner -- Caroline does all that AND protect her friends from those trying to hurt them. She takes care of herself, and all the men in her life -- she never depended on.

The actions of the characters on the show reminded me of my life (to an extent). When one felt a certain way, lied, or didn't share how they felt, the viewers were able to see the repercussions. Watching their words and actions unfold taught me to take every moment with precious care and live like there's no tomorrow. Because even the strongest of vampires can always die.

There's nothing a Bourbon can't fix.

Rebekah Mikealson was one of the most badass chicks around on TVD. However, although immortal, beautiful, strong and violent, she loved easy and just wanted to be human. Her brothers tormented her for it and killed lover after lover when they knew they weren't suitable for her. The girl never got a happy ending, and as someone who fears she loves way too easily as well -- Rebekkah showed me it was okay.

You made me see even the villains -- with their rage and incapability of mercy -- have a soft side capable of making you fall in love.

Thank you for reminding me I am not the only one who is haunted by the ones they've lost.

Thank you for showing me no one is easier to love and hate than Katherine Pierce.

And last but not least, as Damon Salvatore committed selfish after the selfish act to protect Elena Gilbert-- he showed me the cold and nimble-hearted do it all with arterial motives.

As I have fallen more and more in love with each character that graces the screen -- do to the genius' behind the screen that are the writers of this show -- I am reminded that the imagination of some humans is insurmountable. No one is alone in the way they feel and all that is needed to remind you of that is some passionate actors and writers, plus, it never hurts to add the supernatural too. Nothing's better than love that really does last forever.

P.S., TVD, Don't leave me. I am mad.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
