An Open Letter To The Sister I Never Had

All our lives we’ve been attached at the hip. No matter where we went or what we did, we always had to be together, and everyone knew it. Over the past 19 years, you have always been there for me and continue to be my best friend. So this is a thank you, for being not only my person but the sister I never had.

Every time we are together, it is nothing but endless laughter. From the silliest things to the most embarrassing things, to the things that only the two of us would find funny, we always find ourselves laughing until tears are streaming down our faces. There never seems to be a time when we’re together when we're not giggling about something ridiculous. I can always count on you to make me smile, even on the worst days.

No matter what, you are my go-to person when I need help. Whether I make a mistake, need to talk things out, or just want someone’s opinion on a picture, you’re always there to help. It doesn’t matter the time or day because you're always there to offer me advice when I need it. I feel comfortable coming to you with anything. You will never judge me, or make me feel bad, but you’ll always help me figure out what to do from the biggest things to the littlest things.

Even though we don’t see each other very often because of our busy college lives, it’s like nothing has changed every time we are back together. We always stay connected with each other and update one another. We can talk for hours at a time and never get sick of each other's voices. Sometimes it’s like we block out the rest of the world and end up disappearing from parties for hours at a time because we’re so caught up in our conversations.

Thank you for all of the memories. Together, you and I are always getting ourselves into trouble, going on adventures, or even just hanging out, the two of us, watching Pretty Little Liars on the couch with a buffalo chicken pizza. It’s during times like these that I’ll never take for granted. My childhood is filled with so many good memories with you, and I know there are so many more to come in the future.

You are the person who I can always be myself around. From the good to the bad, you’ve seen it all and we’ve helped each other through life’s highs and lows. So thank you for being more than just a cousin to me. You are my best friend, my person, and my future maid of honor, but above all else, you are the sister that I never had.

Love,

Sarah

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Everybody gets sick once in a while, but getting sick while in college is the absolute worst. You're away from home and your mom who can take care of you and all you really want to do is just be in your own bed. You feel like you will have never-ending classwork to catch up on if you miss class, so you end up going sick and then it just takes longer to get better. Being sick in college is really tough and definitely not a fun experience. Here are the 15 stages that everyone ends up going through when they are sick at college.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
