I have written many Facebook posts about you, tagged you in a lot of photos, sent you text after text, You have seen me at my worst and never left, you took me into your life as one of your own and never looked back. You have been in my life for about 5 years now but it feels like longer. You may not know this but without you, I would be an entirely different person. You have taught me to see the good in people, the positives in life, and most importantly the love in myself. You have dealt with a lot from me and somehow you are still here. You dried my tears as I cried, made me laugh so hard, made me smile till it hurt and hugged me until I was whole again. I tell you this all the time but it is important for you to know, that without you I would be lost. I would not be the person that I am today, I would not have gotten through anything that my life has thrown at me without you. You take care of me and that is one of the many reasons why I am so appreciative of you! You have honestly changed my life and you may not even know it. You are the person who cheers me up, who talks me up to others including myself, who has filled a giant hole in my life without even knowing it and who has honestly inspired me to be a better me. My parents, especially my mom, love you and are always asking about you and are concerned about you and your life. You changed me and don’t even know it. You made me believe in myself and opened my eyes to so many new opportunities in life that I never saw before. You are the only person I know who would jump over a chair to say hello or come running down a hallway. You are the person who is always a call or a text away. I always know you are there. You have been by my side through the good and the bad, the happy and the sad. You are one of the most genuine people that I know. You accept me for my flaws and have even helped me to embrace them because they make me who I am. I love sitting back and looking at all of the things that you are doing with your life because it makes me happy to see you succeed and to be the person that I know you can be. I am forever grateful for you and I cannot say that enough times because it is true. I look to you in more ways then one and not only because you are tall. Thank you for being you and for being there for me. I am really lucky to have found a friend like you. Thank you for everything and more and for giving me the best years of my life, and most importantly thank you for being my friend. I love you and I hope you know it. Thank you for coming into my life and for bringing me joy.

Thank you for it all.

I am forever lucky to call you a friend.

Love,

me

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
