“Our doubts are traitors, and make us lose the good we oft might win, by fearing to attempt.” - William Shakespeare
There is not a day that goes by that I do not think of all the hateful things you said. You listed off a plethora of reasons why I could not succeed. Why I was not good enough. You made me live in fear that I would never be good enough for anything...
You've scarred my heart and my mind. I blame you for making myself second guess my own abilities. Your words like knives that punctured my self confidence. As a human, unfortunately, we are not immune to doubts. It makes us or breaks us. However, I am so thankful for the day that I turned those doubts into determination.
It took a lot of heartache to see my self-worth after hearing all your doubts, but I truly believe I would not be where I am today if you did not make me strive to beat the odds. I remember hearing those words from you, "I do not see how they picked you to represent. You are not successful and will never be." I chuckle a little inside when I hear those words now. How ironic they are now...
I can assure you there will be individuals along the way that will doubt you. Do not let those hateful, jealous, arrogant monsters control who you are and what you will become. You are capable of so much. Your potential is endless. Go out and conquer whatever your heart desires.
Everyone has ran into someone who has doubted them before. Colonel Sanders was the founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken. It took a lot of hard work and dedication to get there though. At the age of 62, Colonel Sanders set out with his $105 social security check to pitch his recipe to restaurants. It was not an easy start. 1,009 restaurants turned him down. He decided to make one more phone call. It is rumored that he told his wife if he was not successful with phone call that he intended to commit suicide. The last call was the charm. It took him 1,010 phone calls before someone believed in him.
The company grew and expanded faster than he could have ever imagined. In 1964, at the age of 74 years old, Sanders sold the company for $2 million dollars.
However, this just goes to show you that you can turn those doubts into determination in order to accomplish something great.
