An Open Letter To The People Wearing Shorts In Winter

Hey guys,

You all know who you are. I have a quick question for you to start this off: y’all do realize it’s winter, right? I’m starting to get convinced that you think you are living in some tropical paradise and you are blinded by the cold.

Day in and day out, I walk to campus for class and notice dozens of people walking around dressed like they are getting ready to head out to the beach for the day. Word of advice, pneumonia is a real thing. So is hypothermia. Try throwing on some jeans or sweatpants for a change oh and (shocker) maybe even a winter jacket! I can assure you, you will be way more comfortable on your painful walk to campus.

It just baffles me when I see y’all walking to class in your shorts and t-shirts. Every once in awhile you see the guy wearing shorts and a hoody. When that happens, I consider it a small victory because at least you attempted to bundle up. To the girls walking to class in norts during the frigid winter months, please know the people who walk past you do not find it cute. Instead, they find you to be a tad bit crazy. Cover up woman, geez!

I understand that there are hot natured people out there, but there is just no way anyone is so hot natured that they can be comfortable in shorts and a t-shirt during winter when there is snow on the ground. I am a hot natured person, but I can assure you, I enjoy bundling myself up and putting on a hat and gloves while walking to class in the winter.

It is OK to admit that temperatures under 50 degrees absolutely require you to wear a winter jacket. It is OK to put one on while heading to class. No one will look at you as less than. You are the same person you were yesterday, now you are just warm. Even a light jacket will do. Anything more than shorts and a t-shirt will suffice. I know the walk to class gets hot, especially when stairs are involved. I am not telling you how to live your lives; I am just worried that you are going to get yourself sick, duh! Plus, when the students walking around dressed for the weather and they see you in your summer attire, it makes them colder, which in turn just leaves more people cold. How is this fair?

If you want to explain your reasoning for what you wear, feel free, but I will always be confused when I see people walking to class in shorts and a t-shirt in the winter. When only my ears are tingling from the cold, your whole body is. HOW IS THAT ENJOYABLE? I just don’t understand.

So, one last plea: throw on some pants and a sweatshirt, I beg of you! Help keep us all sane. Winter is not a fashion show, bundle up and keep warm.

Yours truly,

Winter coat wearers

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

Being pre-med is quite a journey. It’s not easy juggling school work, extracurricular activities, volunteering, shadowing, research, and MCAT prep all at the same time. Ever heard of “pain is temporary, but GPA is forever?” Pre-meds don’t just embody that motto; we live and breathe it. Here are 10 symptoms you’re down with the pre-med student syndrome.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.

One Book Made Me Question Existence In Its Entirety

"The Stranger" by Albert Campus touches upon many heavy elements... but not in the way you expect. Although it touches upon the aspects of death and love, it also deals with a hidden philosophy similar to that of nihilism.

The story follows the short life events of Meursault, a Frenchman whose carelessness for his actions eventually ends him in jail and dependent on a jury of people to judge the ethicality of his decision and the punishment that he deserves. He eventually gets the death penalty and all throughout he is nonchalant and almost apathetic towards his situation. He finally snaps when the prison sends a priest to him to absolve him of his sins and to cajole him in confessing to the lord.
