An Open Letter To The One My Soul Loves

When I was a young I would watch as the love my parents share grew with every minute, every hour, every day, and every year that passed. I would hear stories of when they dated, I would look at their wedding pictures, I would watch them lead together and I would watch them live life just thinking about how someday I hope that I find someone who would share a love with me the way they shared their love. Not just a regular human love, but a love that is only shared by first loving God. I wanted an agape love. A love greater than any other love, because that is what I had seen my whole life.

By the grace of God, at a young age, I found the one who was designed just for me. Love, is not always easy but it's always worth it. So to the one whom my soul loves, thank you.

For your love.

Thank you for loving me with a love that is greater than any I could have ever imagined. Daily you look at me with a love in your eyes and in your heart that I am so undeserving of. Sometimes my imperfections outshine everything else and yet you somehow still see me as the greatest and most perfect person in your world. For that, I'm thankful!

For your prayers.

I truly believe in the power of a praying spouse. They say there is nothing greater and with my whole heart I agree. Thank you for grabbing my hand at the dinner table to say a prayer over our food. Thank you for grabbing my hand when we get in the car to pray for my safety. Thank you for laying in bed with me every night and saying, "Do you want to pray first or me?" Thank you! Your prayers have saved me many of times.

For your unwavering faith.

Most people can not go through the trails and the test that you have been through and still trust God to rule over their lives, yet here you are. You still somehow trust God in every area, every trail, and every test you go through. In a world that says you are supposed to be a certain way, speak a certain way, act a certain way. Thank you for showing them that they are wrong.

For your strength.

When I am at my weakest, when my faith is shaken and when the weight of the world is on my shoulders, thank you for picking me up, dusting me off, and giving me the strength I need for another day. You make me brave!

And lastly, for your forgiveness.

As a human, I don't always make the best decisions, but somehow you still forgive me. The Bible says, "Husbands love your wives as Christ loved the church." And that is the exact love you have shown me. A love that forgives even the greatest of mistakes or the smallest of mistakes. You still welcome me, like Christ does with open arms. Thank you.

"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails." - 1 Corinthians 13:4-8

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!

There is nothing quite like family.

Family is kinda like that one ex that you always find yourself running back to (except without all the regret and the angsty breakup texts that come along with it).

No matter how long your class is, there's always time for the mind to wander. Much like taking a shower or trying to fall asleep, sitting in a classroom can be a time when you get some of your best ideas. But, more than likely, you're probably just trying to mentally cope with listening to a boring lecturer drone on and on. Perhaps some of the following Aristotle-esque thoughts have popped into your head during class.

Bob's Burgers is arguably one of the best and most well-written shows on tv today. That, and it's just plain hilarious. From Louise's crazy antics to Tina's deadpan self-confidence, whether they are planning ways to take over school or craft better burgers, the Belchers know how to have fun. They may not be anywhere close to organized or put together, but they do offer up some wise words once and awhile.
