An Open Letter To The Old Folk

Millennials are your future.

“Young, scared, and ready to take on this big bold world” is what most college students and upperclassmen high school students think of. We think that right now we are unstoppable and ready for what life throws at us, but we are also worried about what’s next. Whether we had someone to count on or not in the past, that’s all about to change because everything is on you, me, and what we decide to do.

It’s an incredible world that we live in. It’s not a perfect world but it’s a world we have come to love and hate. People say we are too young to understand and that we are not good enough to keep the world efficient or good enough for their standards; little does the world know we are ready for anything and get ready for to applaud for us. The people who don’t think we are ready for this world is going to be biting their nails, because they are going to hate seeing us succeed and proving them wrong constantly.

Dear the Generations Before Us,

Are you nervous on the fact that you know you’re wrong? I would be nervous. I mean, I hate being wrong. I also know that your generation hates being wrong too, but little do you guys know is we have seen your mistakes and we won’t live with them. The mistakes you individuals made are what we are going to learn from; where we strive to be better than what we have seen what you have put in. We’re ready to give it our all, but are you ready for us to succeed?

Yes, I’m calling you out. I hate hearing that “millennials are the worst generation” on the precedent that we have contributed fairly nothing to society and on the decisions we made during adolescence; these arguments aren’t valid because you can’t judge a generation off a few mistakes that we made growing up, we are still learning about the world and giving it our all. People need to understand that we can’t change the world in over a day, but trust me we are changing the world slowly. Keep judging us because it’s only making us stronger and more ambitious to prove everyone wrong; we are strong and can take any judgment thrown at us. Soon there will be articles, stories, and publications about how this generation changed society and proved everyone wrong. You’ll see this through actions, words, and the evolution of this wonderful generation.

One thing that definitely makes our generation different is we are the most accepting generation; we have learned to love, treat, and give anyone the same opportunity we all deserve. We hold judgment still, but everyone does. Another important thing is most generations learn the negative things from their parents, our generations learns how to better and to think for ourselves. Thinking for ourselves is important especially in a society we live in today, which in fact the older generations have contributed too. Just remember that society was created and is this way, because of you and is not because of our generation. Our generation is slowly changing this society for the better, so hold on and adjust.

I hope everyone gets the picture that we are your future. Don’t give up hope on something transpiring.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
