I never really thought traveling would be something I did alone. I assumed I would travel the world, backpacking across Europe with my love interest, eating a romantic dinner with my husband in Paris, or even a weekend beach trip with a family member. Something I've learned very recently is to always remember there is nothing wrong with traveling alone. Of course, there are things to remember, such as safety and cautionary measures, plenty of check-ins with close family, and finding a decent coffee shop.
We have heard it all. Being a young female the first thing my family jumps to is warnings of not going out at night, questioning why I want to travel in the first place (which is absolutely absurd,) and my personal favorite, "Have you ever seen *insert movie/ID Channel show/News Bulletin here* they traveled and look what happened!"
Chances are things we take. I have been hurt physically, emotionally, and sexually by people I know. People I considered close friends. I have just as much chance of getting abducted in London as I do getting gas at night in my little Hyundai.
People live in fear, and I've learned fear is not something to keep us from enjoying life and exploring the world. If we were meant to stay in one place, we would have roots, not feet. Our ancestors would not have moved around. We would not have curiosity in our hearts and minds as to what it is like, and we most certainly wouldn't be able to purchase a plane ticket.
It is okay to travel alone. It is okay to travel. Never limit your experiences based on anyone else's opinions.
