An Open Letter To The Girl With A Big Heart

Thank you for being you.

An Open Letter To The Girl With A Big Heart

To the girl with a big heart,

You’re the girl who puts a smile on her face, even though you feel like screaming on the inside.

You’re the girl who showers everyone with endless compliments – never accepting any for yourself.

You’re the girl who everyone comes to for advice, knowing they’ll always leave with hope and a smile on their face, but always internalizes her own problems.

You’re the girl who ignores flaws, only sees the good in people and more often than not, pays for it.

You’re the girl who doesn’t know who you are, but lets others make that decision for you.

You’re the girl whose personality is both simple and complex and just wants people around her to know that.

And for that, thank you. You are loved.

I know you have been yearning to hear those words.

Your path definitely isn’t easy. You break your heart into tiny pieces and give it to everyone around you, even if they don’t deserve it. You trust so easily, giving people the second chances they never deserve to have. Giving your 110 percent in anyone, anything and everything, no matter how many times it has backfired. You are relentless and refuse to let anyone crush that positivity. Your setbacks only make you stronger. Whenever your love is thrown back at you, you just throw it back harder because that is just who you are.

You’re ambitious. Your dreams are as vast and as beautiful as the universe, and you fulfill them passionately. It is your heart that sets you apart from others. You wear your heart on your sleeve, and that is what helps you succeed. Don’t let anyone tell you to stop vocalizing your love for your dreams because that is just who you are.

You always put others first, but you might never know the feeling of being put first. You’re the girl who will pick up the phone at 2 a.m. to help your friend feel better because your voice, your words and your positivity puts a smile on their face. You leave a mark on any and every person you meet, and believe me, that is a lot of people. The ever-present smile on your face, your cheerful attitude and simply happy personality is a presence in the room that radiates because that is just who you are.

You are strong. Your compassion for others illuminates from you. Helping others and making them happy is your only, simple joy in life. I know you don’t like it when people praise you for doing the right thing because you knew it was the only decision to make. You make peoples’ days, and believe it or not, you change peoples’ lives being the person you are. In a world filled with hatred, despair, grief, suffering and doubt, you are the silver lining. Although it may seem like a beautiful curse at times of heartbreak, it is better to have loved than not loved at all. This is what makes you special, remarkable and extraordinary. Take care of your big heart because you’re the one who’s going to change the world, one smile at a time.

With much love,

A girl with a big heart

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
