To The Girl With An Old Soul

You are strong.

Beautiful,

You and I are the same. We probably think the same thoughts, process things similarly, and see the world through the same lens. I understand you.

Don't listen when people call you a stick in the mud, or when they think you're no fun because you don't want to go out and get drunk every Saturday night. You know that you are worth more than that, and I applaud you for it.

Just because you are 20 years old and are ready for a family doesn't mean you are rushing your life away. It simply means you know what you want out of life, and you are ready to make that happen. If anything, it makes you even more mature. You would rather soak in a bubble bath surrounded by candles than stay out all night, and a good book and a cup of coffee sounds like the ideal Saturday night. Because you have that personality, you are beautiful.

You grew up and you had rules you had to follow, you were told when you were expected to be home, and when you weren't home by then you had consequences to follow. You have been through all the terrible things that life has to offer, and because of that you are the woman of integrity that you are today. That in no way makes you different for all the wrong reasons. You are exactly the kind of woman that mothers pray will marry their sons. You are wife material.

Because of the fact that you feel out of place, you are more aware of who you are. You have been given countless opportunities to change that, but you know that being yourself is more important. You are incredible for it.

You are strong. You are not one to lie to yourself about the harshness of the world around us. You know that life is going to be hard, a lot of the time. You know that it's not about what you surround yourself with, but who you surround yourself with. You have your eyes wide open with the realities of this world, and you aren't stepping down from the battles that are in front of you.

Having an old soul isn't easy. You concern yourself with things far deeper than what the person sitting next to you would ever think about. You feel stronger, deeper emotions. You are beautiful. You are unique. You are yourself, and I applaud you for it. Never change who you are.

8 Things I Realized After My First Semester In College

Actually, Kylie Jenner, 2018 is the year of realizing things.

The first semester of college is famous for being one of the most difficult transitions of one's young adult life. You're thrown into a completely new area where the majority of the people surrounding you are strangers in an academic environment that's much more challenging then what you've grown accustomed to for the past twelve years. On top of that, you probably share a room with another person (or even multiple people) on the lumpiest "mattress" you've ever slept on.

With this change comes a lot of questions: what do I want to major in? What am I passionate about? Is what I'm passionate about something I'm actually good at? Why does the bathroom smell like cranberry juice and vodka? What is that thing at the bottom of the shower drain?

6 Unrealistic Expectations Society Has For Young Adults

Don't let the thesaurus-inspired vocabularies in our résumés fool you. We're actually just big kids.

Well over four feet tall and 100 pounds in weight, many of us "young adults" of the world still consider ourselves children. Big, working, college-attending, beer-drinking children. We may live on our own, know how to cook noodles, and occasionally use a planner, but don't be fooled; the youthful tendencies that reside within us still make their way into our daily lives. From choosing to stay up until 3:00 a.m. playing video games on a school night to going out in 30 degree weather without a coat, we still make decisions that our parents and grandparents would shake their heads at in disappointment. So why are we expected to know exactly how to be a wise, professional, sensible adult? It's not that we're irresponsible (for the most part, anyway). It's that we are young, inexperienced, and still have the sought-after, enthusiastic mentality that we can do and be whatever we want, which has not yet been tarnished by the reality of the world. These are just a few of the unrealistic expectations that society has for young adults.
