An Open Letter To The Girl Who Just Compared Herself

Because you are more.

I see you, sweet girl. I know you've logged into Instagram for the fifth time tonight. I see you checking to see who's commenting and how many likes she's up to now. I know you looked in the mirror this morning and sucked in that tummy to see what you'd look like if only you'd stuck to those workouts like she did. I know you saw her “man crush Monday” for the tenth week in a row, and all you can feel is the jealousy boiling up inside of you.

I see you, sweet girl. I know you. I've been you.

What I need you to understand is this: You are more than your likes. You are more than those comments. You are more than what your posts say you are. You are more. You are not valuable because your followers say that you are or aren't. You are valuable because of who created you. You are His.

“Little children, you are from God. You have overcome them. For He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” 1 John 4:4

Let me share something with you that it took me far too long to understand--His grace is sufficient. You already have the only approval you'll ever need. Whether you have chosen to accept Him or not, He has already chosen you, precious girl. All of you. Every bump and every dent. He made you the way He saw fit. And you are irreplaceable.

Every time you compare yourself to her, you are diminishing God's power. You are saying that what He made isn't good enough, outgoing enough, skinny enough. You are saying He isn't enough.

So, stop letting the spirit of comparison win. Stop letting the enemy control your thoughts. Her walk is not your walk. The plans He has for her are far different than the plans He has in store for you.

Stop focusing on her and let God use you.

When you stop focusing on her, it will allow you to focus on Him. You deserve that. You deserve a love that never ends. You deserve a hand that will always hold you up. You deserve peace beyond compare. Run to your Heavenly Father and let Him work a mighty work in you!

“Draw near to me and I will draw near to you.” James 4:8

I know it's easier said than done. But I'll let you in on a secret--He will never leave you. You are not fighting this comparison battle alone, my precious sister. God sees you struggling. But, he also sees what is ahead of you once you let Him help you. Genuine love. Unforgettable adventures. Blessings unimaginable.

I know all you can see right now is a newsfeed of people who are always one step ahead. I only ask you to remember, not who, but who's you are.

Oh, sweet girl, you are more.

Love,

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
