To me, it seemed like a hopeless cause. I was a girl beyond help, suffering with no end in sight. You welcomed me, you listened to me, you took me under your wing, you were patient and gentle with me. You treated me as an equal. Your voice had a calming effect, your smile was comforting, your patience was inspiring.
You… you are the reason I am alive today.
You reminded me that I had a life worth living.
You believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself.
The words that come to mind when I think of you: healing, hopeful, calming, motivated, dedicated, inspiring, strong, and above all, humble.
It is my hope that our doctor-patient interaction was a defining moment for you. A moment where you knew why you were meant to be a psychiatrist, why it was all worth it, the difference you made in me and my family’s life… an interaction that made your career all worth it. Thank you. Thank you for giving me my life back.
