An open letter to the coaches who never gave up on me
Tara Sasso

When I turned 9 I walked into little league practice to meet the two people who at the time, I didn't know would have such an impact on my life. Coach Nat and Coach Erika that day became my coaches but now 10 years later there not just my coaches but they are my role models and the people who have taught me I can achieve anything as long as I work hard. They have become like older sisters to me.

The fact that they have put up with me for 10 years proves they can basically put up with anyone or anything. From little league, high school and travel ball. They have made me into the player and person I am. They helped raise me. They were hard on me, they made me run countless sprints, do countless bear crawls and yelled at me probably more than they yelled at anyone but I'm extremely thankful for it. They turned a 10-year-old brat who only cared about herself into a leader, the first ever captain of there travel softball program East Coast Drive out of Rockland County New York and lastly, a coach of 12 and 14-year-old softball athletes.

There isn't anybody else I would have wanted to coach me and help make me into the person and player I am today. They both help me and never give up on me even on days I thought giving up was the only option they made me remember everything I've worked for. If it was other coaches not believing in me,trouble at home or my epilepsy. They were always there even when They should of doubted me they never did and to this day, never do so thank you

They taught me that "Heart,Passion and Drive" can get you anywhere and loving what you do helps too. They got me to play college ball twice and are helping me transfer to a third. How thankful I am for the two of them I can't express because the words "Thank you, I love you" truthfully aren't enough for the last 10 years of my life.Them being there every time I'm sick or there texts and calls checking up on me while I'm at school, Erika studying with me when I don't understand something or them hanging with me all day at the facility means more to me than they will ever realize.

My college teammates at school see how close we are and always tell me how lucky I am to have both of you but lucky isn't even the word because they don't know the half of it. I am truthfully blessed to have two people like them in my life.

Thank you for becoming who you have to me. Thank you for giving me a home by building the facility. Thank you for keeping your promise to me when I was younger by giving me a family. Thank you for caring for me and loving me like you do.

"Ohana" means nobody gets left behind or forgotten. I love you to the moon and back Your forever first and longest player,

Sasso

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

Yes, it IS a sport. Yes, I fall all the time. No, I do not ride in jeans with a cowgirl hat on.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
