An Open Letter To My Roommates

I'm so lucky to have met you girls, and even luckier to be able to call you my best friends

An Open Letter To My Roommates

Dear roomies:

In my four years at Saint Thomas Aquinas College, I have experienced so many ups and downs. However, in the last month that we have become roommates, there have already been so many laughs, tears, and memories made. Between the study dates, game marathons, movie nights, late night venting sessions, and nights going out together, we have already experienced so much craziness that I can only imagine what the rest of the year has in store. So, there are just a few things that I would like to thank you for - first individually, and then, as a whole.

Princess: Girl, I have only known you for a month and already it feels like it's been years, because you have quickly become one of my closest friends. From the day that I met you, you have been nothing but an absolute sweetheart. You came into the room with three absolute crazies and you fit right into the mix. You've seen me hysterically laughing and hysterically crying and I admire the way you handle every situation with patience, kindness and grace. You motivate me to do my homework, to go to class, to hit the gym and basically to do anything productive and I must say you are definitely rubbing off on me in that way. You are someone that I was so excited to take home to meet my family, and they already love you almost as much as I do. You're absolutely beautiful, and absolutely incredible and I hope you know that I am someone you can always come to with anything - I'll always be here for you anytime, anywhere.

Jessica aka Salik aka Ranger Jalba: Oh Ranger, where do I even begin? You were the first friend I made at STAC, and what a blessing it's been to have such an incredible person like you in my life. I can honestly not say that there has been a single time in four years that I haven't been able to count on you. Whether I needed a ride somewhere, a pep talk, or a kick ass drinking partner you were always there - no questions asked. Thank you for having my back, for directing me everywhere, and for never failing to make me laugh (even at the most inappropriate times). You're another one that my family absolutely adores, and I could never imagine them not loving you just as much (if not more) than I do. You are my best friend, and I love you with all my heart. Always have, and always will.

Nasia Marie aka Giselle aka Josephina: Vega, Vega, Vega. What can I say to you other than this: you came into my life and my darkest point, and you've done nothing but make my life better since day one. You and I are literally the same exact person. Scorpio babies, birthdays a day apart, with enough craziness, heart and attitude to move mountains. I know that we don't always see eye to eye and we tend to butt heads sometimes, but it's okay because that's what sisters do. There are very and I mean very few people that I am closer with than you, and I know that at the end of the day, we will always have each other's backs. Whenever we're together, it's nothing but procrastination and laughter, and that's one of the things I love most about us. Four years later and we're still finishing each others sentences and creating so many memories it makes my head spin. Four years later and I know I can come to you with anything and that I can trust you with my life, and I do. Four years later and I finally got you to appreciate country music, and you've gotten me to dress like a lady and wear makeup to class - and actually like it. You were by my side at 18, you're here at 21, you'll be holding my hand at my wedding and you'll be there with me in that retirement home causing some kind of chaos and I can't wait. You're my soul sister, my partner in crime and my everything. I have so much love for you, always.

So, my beautiful, incredible, intelligent, strong and absolutely hysterical ladies: You bring so much happiness and good vibes to my life it's crazy. I always look forward to coming back to the room to see you all - you make the good times better and the hard times easier. You mean the world to me and I cannot wait to see what the rest of our senior year has in store for us. Thank you for everything. I love you!!!

Xoxo, Bri aka MoMo aka Pink Moscato

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
