An Open Letter To My Nana
Savannah Williams

Where do I even start,

You are all kinds of crazy that I don't even know how to describe. First, I love that you try to be the sweet, innocent, southern, and retired old lady, but then the crazy nana comes out! One day I hope to be half the Nana that you are to us. There are a few things that I have learned from you that I would like to say thank you for:

1. Always take every opportunity you have to try and embarrass your granddaughters and son.

It's the quiet moments at dinner or walking down the aisles at church and we all turn and look and say, "what did Nana just say?". But not because we couldn't hear it but in shock that actually was said out loud. Moments before we all start giggling and say, "NANA!"

2. Always laugh more than anything in life.

Nana, it is my absolute goal to always get you giggling. And I think the one thing I love most about your sweet spirit is how much you giggle and can't stop laughing once you get going. I hope when I get to be your age and have gone through everything you have, I can still enjoy life just as much as you do. For all the laughter between us that no one can explain and for the adventures that some do know about that we will be laughing about forever, that has to be kept secret. :)

3. Always arrive in style and class, but never late.

75 never looked so good. I will always remember you pulling up to pick me up from school or any event I was at with your over-sized sunglasses on, your hair always perfectly curled, and always in a classy outfit, never in just a t-shirt. You always arrive at least 20 minutes early to any event, gathering, or meeting time, no matter the occasion or how far or close by it may be. It's always important to make a statement, with your hair perfectly done at that! Never ever ever ever leave the house without your hair done.

4. Always put your two cents in to really ruffle their feathers :) (Dad this one is for you).

This is to all the times that you always love to just put your last little word in or your opinion on the matter to just really keep the night interesting. And it usually ends up with dad saying, "MOM, would you please!" and then you saying back, "JOHN, Ok I'm leaving I've pissed him off." And that usually makes him fume a little longer. This honestly has to be one of my favorite moments because seeing you two bicker is hysterical.

5. Always give your heart and go above and beyond for everyone

Nana, anyone who knows you would agree that one of your best and most admirable traits is that you would give up your own happiness for someone else's. Nana, a very long time ago you decided to move to Myrtle Beach from Columbia to help my dad out, and I could never be more thankful for that decision you made. You and Papa picked up your entire life and moved it across the state just for us. And that is just a bare example of the servants and giving heart that you have.

Nana, from the bottom of my heart and in all seriousness, my life wouldn't be the same without the crazy Nana just a FaceTime call away at all hours of the night. I know for a fact that I wouldn't have half the endless laughs till we pee ourselves or cry, movie nights, late night milkshake runs, chocolate and cookie dough, love of country music, and most importantly the years of love and making a best friend out of you when I didn't even realize it.

Half the world doesn't understand our unique relationship or half the things that we talk about. But that is most of the fun! I hope to one day be half the Nana that you are, or even be worthy enough to have the title of Nana. I know I will have huge shoes to fill especially the love and crazy part!

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
