An Open Letter To Tarleton Students

Always bleeding purple and remember the traditions.

An Open Letter To Tarleton Students

I can’t even imagine what and/or where I would have ended up if I didn’t chose Tarleton State to finish out my degree. I know that there are a lot of universities, in Texas especially, but Tarleton is the best-kept-secret ever. With all of the traditions and organizations on campus, you stay pretty busy along with school work. Ending your college career at Tarleton is something that will stand with you for a long time. I know that I have friends who have continued rooting for their college sports teams and are pretty intense with them and that is how I will be with the Tarleton Texans and Texans.

Leaving a legacy at Tarleton is something that I want to leave for the upcoming freshman classes. Being able to be yourself around campus, hang out with friends in the student center, play some crazy ping-pong, the memories can go on…make those memories because they will stay with you forever. I understand why everyone says that you make your forever friends in college, building those relationships with them is timeless. Tarleton State is all about the traditions and now I see that they are extremely important and will always be, no matter what happens. As the school continues to grow bigger and bigger, more traditions will be made and become successful.

At Texan/Duck camp that I attended in the fall of last year, I was nervous to be attending a big university coming from a small private school. Having my Texan camp leaders and the awesome friends that were in my group is what made the whole experience this far so awesome. Having the ability to believe in myself and having people in my life during the fall and spring semester to push me to be where I’m now, about to start the fall 2016 semester as a senior that is so crazy to say.

Being a senior in the fall shows me that if I put my heart to something and don’t give it up, everything will work out the right way. With God walking the path with me, I am the person I am because of Him. I give him all the credit, He lead me to Tarleton State and everyone welcomed me as a transfer student with open arms. Making the Dean’s list twice and pushing forward in completing my degree is my goal as a future-almost senior at Tarleton State.

Words of wisdom to all the students of Tarleton State: Keep pressing forward on your goal to earn and receive your degree, don’t give up. If you can, don’t take a semester off, cause then that is when you cause yourself to not continue. I have told myself that if I ever took a semester off, I don’t think I would go back. I know that’s hard for me to think of but I would have given up on myself. Remember that bleeding purple will always be with you, you have so many friends standing up behind you, so many lessons that you have learned, cheered on the Texans and Texans at sporting events and seeing how important sports are at Tarleton, just puts a smile on my face. Holding onto these memories and traditions will always be a part of me as a Tarleton State Texan!

Bleed Purple,

A graduating TSU senior

8 Things I Realized After My First Semester In College

Actually, Kylie Jenner, 2018 is the year of realizing things.

The first semester of college is famous for being one of the most difficult transitions of one's young adult life. You're thrown into a completely new area where the majority of the people surrounding you are strangers in an academic environment that's much more challenging then what you've grown accustomed to for the past twelve years. On top of that, you probably share a room with another person (or even multiple people) on the lumpiest "mattress" you've ever slept on.

With this change comes a lot of questions: what do I want to major in? What am I passionate about? Is what I'm passionate about something I'm actually good at? Why does the bathroom smell like cranberry juice and vodka? What is that thing at the bottom of the shower drain?

6 Unrealistic Expectations Society Has For Young Adults

Don't let the thesaurus-inspired vocabularies in our résumés fool you. We're actually just big kids.

Well over four feet tall and 100 pounds in weight, many of us "young adults" of the world still consider ourselves children. Big, working, college-attending, beer-drinking children. We may live on our own, know how to cook noodles, and occasionally use a planner, but don't be fooled; the youthful tendencies that reside within us still make their way into our daily lives. From choosing to stay up until 3:00 a.m. playing video games on a school night to going out in 30 degree weather without a coat, we still make decisions that our parents and grandparents would shake their heads at in disappointment. So why are we expected to know exactly how to be a wise, professional, sensible adult? It's not that we're irresponsible (for the most part, anyway). It's that we are young, inexperienced, and still have the sought-after, enthusiastic mentality that we can do and be whatever we want, which has not yet been tarnished by the reality of the world. These are just a few of the unrealistic expectations that society has for young adults.
