An Open Letter To A Special Friend: Nothing Can Break Us Apart
Alyssa Fischer

To a very special friend:

Nothing can break us apart:

Not classes, not distance, not schools, not disagreements, not jobs, not personal struggles, not many years of time. Nothing, absolutely nothing, has been able to break our friendship apart.

We met in third grade, and not even a year and a half into our friendship, you received the news that you would have to switch schools. Heartbreaking, yes. But friendship breaking? Nope. We grew closer and closer. We still got together on playdates and did Littlest Pet Shop weddings. We still talked for long hours on the phone while playing on Webkinz and Club Penguin. We still read books to each other, still went to free movies (until they became pricey) every week of the summer, still went to each other's performances and school events.

And then we experienced junior high together. We grew to be the closest we ever had been. We started following Jesus together. We even had gym class with each other, the first time since third grade!

But then, distance came again. We split up and went to different high schools. We each made new friends, did new things, matured and changed in many ways.

I'm sure people doubted that our friendship would last.

Yet, almost a decade later, we're not only graduates of different high schools, but still the closest of friends.

To a very special friend: I am so grateful for you. We've been through everything together, yet nothing has been able to destroy our friendship. You've seen me at my best and at my worst. You've never judged me, even when I've done wrong (and of course you've seen my curly hair at its worst and didn't judge or leave me and that says a lot about our friendship). I can go to you at any time when I need advice and you're there.

I am so thankful that I can truly be myself around you. I'm so thankful to have a friend who I know will never leave my side. I'm thankful that even when we're not able to talk for a week or two, we catch up right where we left off like nobody's business.

I'm thankful to share our love for chocolate and our hatred for shopping. To both have the same sense of humor and awkwardness. To still talk for long hours and never get tired, sing along to the radio like nobody's listening, go to ice cream dates, neighborhood walks, Bible studies, the list could go on. To finally go to school together once again, to share some classes in college, even if it's only for a semester. To both have the same idea for a possible career.

To have you as my best friend.

Friendship like ours is evidence that a good God exists.

Because no matter what, nothing can break our friendship apart!

I'm so grateful for you.

To those who celebrate, you just spent an entire day cooking an elaborate meal with all of your favorite foods. You probably ate your body weight in pumpkin pie and mashed potatoes. What happens now? 18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.
