I don't think it is a surprise to anyone that I am a Democrat. I'm a millennial in a four-year University and I study Political Science. By the way, almost everyone talks about my demographic people think we are all liberals and while that isn't true there is a reason the stereotype exists. However, I'm not here to talk about Democrats today, after all, I have titled this article "An Open Letter to Republicans".
Dear Republicans,
Y'all won this cycle, "bigly" as some would say. You did way better than us Democrats and now you control the majority of governors, state legislators, the national Congress and even the presidency. Congratulations on running a winning strategy and beating us Democrats, even though it sucks for me that y'all have had such massive gains I have to give credit where credit is due.
This last cycle was rough for all of us and now the country we so proudly serve is more divided than it has been in a long time. Some argue it's the most divided it has ever been. I've debated with you, sometimes heatedly, I've worked on campaigns against your campaigns, posted rants about y'all and been real frustrated with you sometimes. But I want you to know this: I do not hate you.
My family is mostly Republican, my friends back home are mostly Republican, my state didn't have a single county for Clinton and has a Republican super-majority in both houses and is in the Governor's office. Heck, the guy I intern for is a Republican and so is my roommate. So despite going to school at the "liberal bubble" that is the University of Oklahoma I am still exposed to you all on a daily basis. Despite our heated arguments and constant disagreements, I do not hate you.
At the end of day Republican or Democrat, we are all just people. People who struggle, go through hardship and are just trying to find their place in the world. Even though we disagree some of the people who have been there for me when I've needed it the most are Republican and because they put people before their politics I know I can rely on them.
So Republicans, It is your show for at least these next two years I hope you do well and that you look out for everyone when drafting policy and passing laws. Remember although I will argue and debate with you until the cows come home, I will never hate you. Both of us want to make America better we just disagree on the path there.

P.S.
I will say this, y'all throw some lit parties.
