Dear Mrs. President,
I did not make a mistake or a typo in the address. I said Mrs. President on purpose. I believe the next commander in chief of this great nation will be a female, and it’ll be you. For the first time in our nation's history, we will do what so many other countries have already done, elect a woman to lead us into the future. A future that will be exciting yet scary for all walks of life. With rising issues occurring inside and outside our borders it’s going to take one hell of a leader to bring this vibrant nation together. I think, just like the majority of this country thinks, that that person should be you.
Now, I am not writing this letter in hopes that you read it in a week, a month, or even a year from now. This letter will most likely never even reach your secretary’s secretary’s desk. But I am writing this letter for one of the many sleepless nights spent in the white house. The time that it’s 3 a.m and you are sitting in the oval office with just your lamp light on. You are preparing your speech for the second mass shooting in a month. The time set for the address is 7 a.m and as the night creeps into the morning you are sitting there wondering what has happened.
Well, what has happened is that you changed history. You changed the game for every succeeding president to come. Against all odds, you fought for your right to be in the seat you are in. It takes a tremendous woman do the job you did to get where you are. So when you are wondering what is going on in this country don’t forget how far we have come. That is a common problem occurring these days.
We don’t have a first lady that is a first for this nation. As a country we used to sell, enslave, and slaughter certain people because of their skin color. At one point it was illegal for everyone to vote besides rich white men. We have come a long way, let’s not forget that in times of struggle. President Clinton please realize what you have done not just for this country but for the world. Showing all countries that the U.S.A decided to choose a woman to lead them. A global power now with a female as their leader. That will change the world as we know it.
I’m proud to say I was apart of the movement that broke the status quo, that went against the grain, and went rogue. You created a movement, you managed to create a sense of hope when no one else could. You found unity in times of turmoil. With your back against the wall and all eyes on you you decided to step up. Mrs. President you took the stage and took charge. As a gracious citizen of this country I thank you.
I hope you never forget what you have done for all of us. I also hope that the people of this country learn to appreciate what we have accomplished. This goes beyond politics and policy. The walls of segregation, sexism, and racism are being broken down because of your actions. It’s been well over a 200 year fight for equality a fight we will continue to fight but with you paving the way for us I believe we are going to reach heights no one else could take us.
In the odd chance you read this I hope you take away one thing. Appreciation, a thanks for what you have done and for what you will continue to do for the United States. President Barack Obama and yourself, in my mind, will without a doubt rank in the top ten for most influential presidents. There is no doubt in my mind that you will serve two full terms as our commander in chief. When the day comes and you have to leave office I hope you walk out of the white house knowing you left a lasting imprint on history. Knowing that you inspired millions and changed a nation for the better. You will have taught us that being yourself, working tirelessly, and showing compassion for your fellow citizens regardless of their race or ethnicity is the standard for our new nation. You will have done something no other president has ever done and for that, thank you Mrs. President.
Best regards,
Jake Capistran
