No party? No problem.

An Open Letter To Political Parties

Since the beginning of America's independence, there have been political parties. The founding fathers tried to warn Americans that political parties were no good and would divide our nation in a way that would be less than beneficial. Today we have a definite divide between the Democratic party and the Republican party, which in turn leads to a divide in political opinions — which is leading to a divided American public.

Democrats are on one side of the spectrum and Republicans are on the other. So what happens if you're in the middle? A lot of great people don't necessarily fall into one of the political parties. You could completely agree with a point the Republicans back but also really support a point the Democrats approve of. So who says you have to have a political party? As long as you are true to the beliefs you hold close to you, you really don't need to be a die hard Democrat/Republican.

Another area of political parties that is corrupt is the area of acceptance. Both parties have such strong ideals and opinions on certain topics that the party becomes completely closed off to any other sort of viewpoint. The topics of gun laws, abortion, gay and women's rights, and refugees are just a drop in the bucket of all of the hotly debated topics in America. If political parties were open to altering some of their strong opinions to cater to those of the opposing party, the world would be a lot more open to everyone.

Politicians need to lead by example and show everyone that it's OK to accept others views. They are our countries leaders and all they do is argue with each other on the daily. We can't have that anymore. In this day and age of war and strife in the world we need solutions. We don't need arguing over the solution due to the political party's opinion; we just need an unbiased solution.

What our country needs right now is to be united. We are the United States of America for crying out loud! So, why does it feel like our country is so divided? Whether you're a Democrat, a Republican, or something in between, it doesn't really matter. Stand up for what you believe in and be open to others points of views. That's all that truly matters when it comes down to it, and it will ultimately be the saving grace for our divided country.

Friendship. It's defined as the state of being attached to another person by feelings of affection or personal regard, but what really is friendship? Is it that occasional hallway talk with that one person who always manages to cheer you up? Is it that relationship you have with someone where they can be gone for a long period of time, but when they come back, it's like they never left? Is it spending every waking hour with someone, and knowing every detail about their life? Is it the relationship that's filled with fighting, but filled with even more resolution? I've learned that it's all of these things, and every friendship is different. It's a beautifully dysfunctional mess that should always be cherished and never be taken for granted.
