Dear people who don't use their turn signals,
Nothing grinds my gears (no pun intended) more than when I'm driving, and the car in front of me changes lanes without signaling their intentions to the rest of us. I don't know if you have genuinely forgotten to take the .02 seconds out of your life that it takes to utilize your turn signal, or you just think that you're above all of the law abiding, turn signal utilizing peasants. Either way, it's not cute, and it needs to stop. I am not a mind reader, nor is anyone else on the road.
Were you absent on the day in driver's ed where you learned about this wonderful tool called the turn signal? It's really easy to use, I promise. By using this nifty little device, you can not only let other cars know where you're going, but you can prevent a crash due to your careless negligence! Using your turn signal is an integral part of safe driving, and today I will explain to you how to do so. By providing a signal, you are not only communicating to others on the road, but you are also performing a common courtesy!
Just in case you don't know how to use your turn signal, I will walk you through the very easy steps that a five-year-old can follow. First, go locate a lever on the left side of your steering wheel. It will look like this.
Did you find it? If so, congratulations!
This is your first step to not having everyone on the road curse you out and hate you. Now that we have located the magic stick, your next step is to familiarize yourself with aforementioned stick. I would recommend doing this while your car is in park, in your driveway, so nobody looks at you like the fool that you are. Get to know the way it turns, twists, and pushes up and down. This is integral.
Now that you are familiar with this stick, here's what I want you to do: pretend that you need to make a left turn, or change into the left lane. Now that you have this visualized, I want you to firmly grasp the stick, and push the tip of it down. Now, you should see a blinking "left" arrow on your dashboard and hearing a tick tock noise! Congratulations, you did the thing.
Now, we are going to try signaling right! Firmly grasp the handle, like we did earlier, but now, you are going to move the lever up. Now, you will see a blinking "right" arrow and hearing that same tick-tock noise!
Signaling is so easy that after you make the turn or do your lane change, most times, your car will turn the signal off! However, sometimes, you might just need to do it yourself. Fear not, because it's not a challenging feat--all you need to do is gently move the lever so that your arrows aren't blinking anymore and you aren't confusing the signal using drivers behind you.
Now that you have been given a crash course on how to use your signal, you have no excuse to not use it.
Sincerely,
Everyone else on the road.
